Story of my Capri Wanted - Dead or Alive For Sale Current cars Home

I've owned a lot of cars and bikes in the past. Some of them I wish I had kept, some I was glad to see the back of. Here's pictures and details of some of the vehicles I used to own. Most of these pictures are scans of pics from my photo albums, so the quality is not so great.

Cars in England

Here's a picture of my very first Capri, the one that started it all. It's a 1979 2.0S. Pic taken in 1989. Sadly I crashed this car.. It was entirely my fault too.

Here's a couple of pics of my 2.8 Injection Capri (HER 950Y) in England, taken around 1991. This car was a 1982 model. It was one of the last 4 speed 2.8 Injections built prior to going to the "T-9" 5 speed (Special) cars. This car was purchased for 1850 pounds from a dealer. I later found out that the car was a stolen recovery, hence the addition of the Special wheels. It was generally in decent shape. I drove this car to the bitter end, and only sold it when moving to the States. I often wonder what happenend to it.

Here's a nice little Capri I picked up in '91. This car is a 1981 1.3 Cameo. Very few were made.. It was painfully slow, but neat to own. I bought it from a young man who was being made to sell it by his parents because he ran someone over with it (by accident... I think.).

MEX 228V started out as a brown 2.0 GL that I bought right after crashing LFM 694T. I used all the "S" trim, interior and wheels to sport it up a little, then repainted it white. It was a nice car, but no substitute for the the "S". I didn't keep it long before replacing it with the 2.8 Injection (HER 950Y).

This is my very first car. It is a '66 VW Type 1 (Beetle). My Grandfather bought this car way back in the '60's, then gave it to me in the late '80's in very poor condition. I spent every penny I had making it as nice as possible. I sold it to buy LFM 694T, my first Capri. It was hard for me to sell, because my parents borrowed this exact car from my Grandfather to drive me home from the hospital in after I was born. I sold it to a guy who was a real VW fanatic and said he would make a show car out of it. Hopefully he was true to his word, and the car still survives.

Other cars I've owned in the UK:

1982 Ford Fiesta 1.1
1980 Ford Capri 3.0 Ghia
1982 Ford Capri 1.6 GL

Cars in America

This is the first car I bought in America. It is a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. It was a 5.0 TPI car with TH700R4 Transmission. It was completely stock when I bought it, but later added the silly wheels and huge tires. I owned this car for close to five years before getting rid of it to buy the White Escort GT. In reflection, this was a aweful car. Poor performance, bad handling, loads of shakes and rattles. One for the "glad I don't own that anymore" books.

Below are a few pics of the first Capri I owned in America. It started as a base model Federal '77 Mk2. I ordered a bunch of parts from Autocross in England and built it up as a Mk3 X-Pack in the mid 90's. The first pic of the car as I bought it, and then the rest as some random pics during the build. This was a good learning experience for me. I made a few mistakes on this car, hopefully the guy who bought it in 2001 forgives me. Originally I built a high compression, twin DCOE 40 carb'ed, 2300 OHC for it. It ran strong for a while, but I got a little too throttle happy with it once and that was the end of that engine. I replaced it was a 2300 Turbo from a Merkur after that, but lost interest and sold it needing only a few minor electrical and fuel connections to complete. To my knowledge the car is in upstate New York in a privately owned Capri collection.

This Capri I bought at an estate sale in Winston-Salem North Carolina for $80. The first pic is as I bought it, the second one was after a good clean-up and a little touch-up paint. I drove it for a few months, then sold it to a guy in Florida. Interestingly, I ended up buying the car back from him when I moved to Florida in the late 90's. I drove it for a year or so as my primary vehicle then sold it to a guy who later I found out was homeless. He in turn crashed it.. Shame.

Here's my Esocrt GT that I had in the mid/late 90's. Great car, I wish I still had it. I was stupid and traded it in on a 1997 Acura Integra GS-R that I bought new. This Escort was a 1992 GT, with a 1.8 litre Mazda engine and 5 speed. To me, this Escort was one of the best looking Federal Escorts. It's not overdone with spoilers or scoops, for a very clean but sporty look. I would really like to find another white Escort GT of similar year in excellent condition.

Here's a Capri I picked up from a junkyard for parts in the Mid '90's. It was a '76 2.8 Auto. Too far gone to save, but great for parts. The windshield ended up in the X-Pack car. See "The collection" button. This is the car I thought was the one I chased down in 1992, glad it wasn't...

Here's the '97 Integra I bought new. 8100rpm fuel cutoff!! Nice car, autocrossed it from day 1, shouldn't have traded the Escort GT for it though.

Here's a '73 Capri that I heard about in the woods in North Carolina. It was behind a guys shed, and was abandoned there after breaking the rear axle. I gave the guy $50 for it and brought it home. It was far to gone to save, but it was a great source of parts. This was pre-eBay, so lots of the parts were sold with good old fashion classified ads and word of mouth.

Other cars I've owned in the US:

1994 Pontiac Grand AM GT (Quad 4) - Bought it new, Absolute junk!
1998 Ford Contour Sport (2.5, 5 speed) - Bought it new... More junk, and this is the reason I'll NEVER buy another new Ford product...
1991 Ford Mustang GT
1979 Mercury Capri 2.8 RS (Basically a rebadged Mustang)
1996 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 (LT1, 6 speed) Actually a nice car, kept it for 4 years.

1996 Plymouth Neon Sport Coupe. Heavily modified for SCCA Solo competition.

2004 Toyota Tacoma Pre-runner pickup.
1986 Merkur XR4Ti - Used it as a parts car. Engine went into X-Pack Capri, transmission went into '87 Merkur below.
1987 Merkur XR4Ti - Rare solid roof (no sunroof model). Kept it for a year then sold it.
1988 Merkur XR4Ti - Drove it for a few months then got rid of it for '96 Z28.
1987 Merkur XR4Ti - Parts car, used engine/tranny/harness/ECU, and seats in Mazda B2000 Pickup. All other parts sold on eBay, shell given to racing team.

Slightly more recent stuff

Here's a picture of Frankinstein! This is a 1986 Mazda B2000. Looks pretty stock and boring huh? Well, it's not. Under the sun fadded hood is a Ford 2300 Turbo 4 cylinder engine. The engine and matching 5 speed transmission are from a 1987 Merkur XR4Ti. The engine has a ported E6 manifold, 3 inch downpipe and exhaust, Boostvalve, and HUGE front mounted intercooler. Boost is variable from 7 lbs all the way up to 25 lbs!! Yeah, it's fast, but people don't realize it until it's too late and I'm gone. I bought this truck from Tampa Machinery Auction, with a sick engine and a smashed in fender and hood. I just happened to have the '87 Merkur that was the donor car sitting around. I fab'ed up some motor mounts, threw in the ECU and harness, as well as high pressure fuel pump and walla, a turbo 2300 B2000. Later I added the intercooler etc. I sold it to a guy in CT who as far as I know still has it, and has made some further upgrades.

Here's some pictures of some of my old Bikes. The blue one is a Streetfighter I built from a Yamaha FZR600R. The Yellow one is a 2001 kawasaki Ninja ZX-7R I bought new. Both were sold shortly before my first daughter was born. The Streetfighter was sold to a young man in Miami, who shortly after buying it, wrecked it... Shame. The 7R was sold to a guy in Orlando, and as far as I know it is still on the road. In the background of one of the Streetfighter pictures is my first WRX. It was a White 2005 standard WRX, I traded it in on my current STI.
