We got off the plane, jet lagged and looking it, and went through customs. I pitied the poor people who had to work during the night... then I remembered that it was 11:30 for them. I am not used to this time change thing. After getting through customs [without a stamp!] we went to claim our luggage, with all their red deer/mulhouse stickers on them, trying to not look like tourists. Yeah, right. There were fifty of us clumped into a group, looking for luggage with the same tag on them, all carrying cameras around our wrists or necks. We didn't look inconspicuous at all.... *rolls eyes*
But hey, we tried and all...
After getting our luggage, we went outside and found our cool bus. It's really nice and comfortable. Our bus driver is Jerome. He's cool as well. We got on the bus and drove across England. I was really sad that we couldn't spend any time there, even just the one day. I just wanted to see the cool touristy things, like Big Ben, and Kings Cross Station, and the
Palace... but noooo we just drove across the land. It was great seeing green things! Like, trees in bloom and stuff. They have a lot of cool buildings and houses in England. And sheep! I got some pictures of those from the bus. They look like white fluff balls... yeah. Moving on. It disturbed Shannon and I that they were driving on the wrong side of the road... and fast and all. I didn't
see any double decker buses, I was disapointed. We didn't take the ferry over as planned, but the chunnel.. I was disapointed, I was looking forward to a ferry ride to see the ocean and everything.
But the chunnel was so cool! We just drove onto this cool train thing, and it moved, and we just had to sit there and let it! I've never seen anything like it before. I was wondering [because I thought you just drove it] how they changed the sides of the road for driving and all. The train did it for us. Pretty impressive. It didn't even feel like we were moving. I tried to sleep then, and I did somewhat. Not enough cause everyone was being so loud, and I get crabby when I get a half hour only of sleep and I need more than that. I snapped at Des and felt bad for it later. She woke me up at one point. After the chunnel, we were in France!!!! Very cool. We stopped somewhere to eat, and Shannon and I experienced our first Europeen ice tea. It was white peach, and the best ice tea we've ever had!! I wish I could say the same for the pasta we had, but it wasn't good. I had apple pie for dessert, and it was so good! After eating Shannon and I went and sat on the grass outside and waited for the teachers. The weather was so nice! We got back in the bus and headed out again. We saw a manor on a hill. That was cool. We saw more sheep. Good stuff.
Finally we got to our Auberge, but first we went over a cool suspended bridge in Le Havre or something like that, it was huge. Then we arrived in Bayeux, got lost a couple of times, and finally found our Auberge. We drove over the grass, lost the path, had to back up and do it again. Soon we got out and got into our home for the couple of days. It's a cute little Auberge with two big rooms, one for the girls and one for the guys. The girls room had Ariel and all stuff little mermaidish all over its walls, and the guys room had the three little pigs... not that I was in there or anything.. I mean, one of the guys just told me and stuff.. yeah.
Once we were all settled down or so, the battle over the shower stalls commenced. It took a while, but I finally got to take my first shower in France. The taps were annoying. It was a push kind of thing, and the water came down. Then about a minute into the shower, they quit and you had to push the button again. It was a constant battle to get water. So the showering experience will not be something I'll miss! After showering I settled in for a real night of sleep! What a long 48 hours it had been. Lights out at 11.
