Day thirteen: Badenweiler   april 28 2003

We went to the usine Peugot today, a car company. It was interesting, but I just wasn't in the mood. I was hungry and tired and hot. I mean, I enjoyed watching the car pieces get pressed, that was cool, and when they put the engine in the car. That was also interesting. But the tour guide started getting on my nerves. 'Restez a la gauche, restez a la gauche!!' I was rather disturbed by the idea that our cars are just GLUED together, that isn't right. But it was ok, I guess. The usine, I mean. I was kinda disapointed, because we couldn't watch them paint the cars, which is the part I actually wanted to see. Oh well.
After eating lunch at the usine, we headed over to Germany!!! We went to a small [at least what we saw of it it appeared small] town called Badenweiler.. I wonder if it's anywhere near Baden, where I used to live. Mr. Porkka jokingly asked if it looked familiar to me. :p There was only one problem with this day trip; we got there at noon, and everything was closed! The teachers let us off the bus, and told us to be back by 2:30, and nothing was open. The ice cream store was open though... yum. I had raspberry, but it wasn't nearly as good as Murray's was. Shannon Lisa and I decided to climb the nearby hill to take a look at the castle ruins on the top. The climb was rather pathetic. All of us were sick [many thanks Lisa], and had smoke filled lungs [or at least I did], and on top of that Aude has a dog... so I couldn't breathe too well. It took a while to climb up to the castle, but we eventually got there! It was closed, but we got some good pictures anyhow. The view of the countryside was amazing. On the way back down, I came across a salamander. That was cool. He was so cute.
A store eventually opened up, and I tried my limited German on the owner for a while. Heh that got us far.. .what with my Guten Tagen, and Ich Verstehes Nicht, and stuff like that. Well it worked for a while; she didn't speak a word of english or french. We found a souvenir shop of sorts, and Shannon and I got our usual postcards. I'll have so many by the end of this trip. Hehehe. We made our way back to the bus after just sitting in the sun beside a fountain. The guys were there playing a game they invented called volleyhackysack. Sounds just like it is. Fun to watch. The lack of air conditioning on the way back was brutal. But the day had been fun.
We got back, Aude picked me up from school, and we caught the bus home. During the evening, nothing big happened. I watched Aude do some of her math [looks so different here; well, they do learn different stuff from us as well], and wrote in my journal. We watched Beverly Hills 90210 dubbed in french, that was cool. I understood it and everything. I also wrote postcards tonight. Fun stuff. Tomorrow I'll tackle that keyboard everyone is complaining about. I got to bed early. It was a resting night.
