Day one: the plane    april 16 2003

Everyone was excited as they stood around, saying their last goodbyes to loved ones being left behind, waiting for the loading of the buses. The tension was rising as the time came to board the buses and say goodbye to home for a full 18 fun filled days. We got on the buses, and then... just sat there and waited. Apparently Shauna was not checked in. They had to call her down to the office in the middle of class [first time ever] for the trip. She thought it started at 1:30, instead of 1. Heh. Then we were off!
After 2 hours or so in a bus with less than 20 people [the other bus must have been packed!] we arrived at the beloved Calgary International Airport. After going through customs and getting our plane tickets and showing our passport a couple of times, we ate lunch. All of us were so excited in anticipation for the trip ahead. Soon after we went through the last round of passport checks, then had to wait for them to call our plane. A couple of us played president until boarding time.
Soon we were on the plane, waiting for take off and the beginning of our long anticipated trip to Europe!!! Shannon was across the aisle from me, good ol' alphabetical order. I was put beside Joanna and Dan, who I sure didn't know at the beginning of this trip. I do now and they're nice people.
I sure didn't sleep very good at all on the plane. I couldn't get comfortable enough, and every time I thought I would sleep, M. Hebert, a great guy and all but a lousy bed partner I'm sure, repositioned himself. I guess I'm not the only one who didn't get any sleep. My legs cramped as well, that didn't help in my sleeping quest. And besides, I think I was too excited to get much sleep either way. The sun rose at about 2, that was so cool. Messed with my mind though. We landed at 3:30 am our time, but for the Londonians, it was 11:30 pm the next day. Crazy.
