I think I first picked up the game in Secondary Three. If I didn't remember wrongly, Kevin's sister had just bought him this card game called 'Gang of Four' when she returned from Hong Kong. So he had brought the cards to school a few days ago to teach a few of the guys. I wasn't with them at that time and so only picked up the game later during one of our regular post-soccer siestas at Adrian's place. And that's how it started. Since then, the couple of us old secondary school classmates have been playing the game regularly. To know more about this game, check out it's rules now!
Personally, I really like the game for a good number of reasons. I feel it's a great card game for 4 players. It's better than Bridge because it's much faster and less serious. The tactics and thoughts involved are simple once you get into it, not like Bridge which requires detailed calculation. There's also great entertainment through the element of surprise. Having more cards means reducing the element of luck and you'll never know what the other players might have up their sleeves! For instance, unlike 'Dai Di' and all card games involving tricks, you can put down the 'highest card' President and still see control snatched away by a gang-of-four! Even your gang-of-four might not be safe from possibly another one held by another player... Mahjong is also a great game, but you can't carry it around like 'Gang of Four', or play it everywhere.
One more thing. The unusual winning method means that very often you can win a deal and end up losing the game! It puts a whole new meaning to winning the battle but losing the war! Like when putting down your last card will send that strangler past 100, make sure that the current leader has enough cards in his hand to leave you as the winner instead. This situation often leads to players performing various hilarious antics like losing a deal delibrately so that the game will not end prematurely! More about these in the tactics section.
I have also got a Hall of Fame section for some of our rather dubious records. Unfortunately, we do not really bother to remember our glorious deeds and so some of the information may be incomplete. Maybe, the rest of the Gang can fill me in on this one!
