Colour |
Pink. It is the most confusing colour. But I prefer to wear black. |
Food |
Chocolate. In all its forms. Cream, milk, cake, cookie, fudge, drink, biscuit, ice-cream... Very sinful. |
Drink |
Banana Milkshake. Thirst quenching and satisfying. |
Fruit |
Grape. Convenient to eat and juicy. |
Pastime |
Internet Surfing. I don't do IRC and chatrooms, but I receive a lot of mail from mailing lists which I have to clear daily. I also use the Internet to look for information on things which I want to check out. Like new CDs, events, news and promotions. Look under the section Favourites. |
Sport |
Soccer. Addicted to it since young thanks to my brothers. Check out the special in Favourites. |
Hobby |
Chess. I am good in International Chess, Chinese Chess, Animal Chess, Military Chess, Shoji, Go, Draughts, Chinese Checkers and Othello. Basically, I like any game with board and seeds only as it requires strategy rather than luck to win. Again, more details in Favourites! |
Animal |
Cat. I don't have a pet but I think cats look really cute with their yellow eyes. |
Artiste |
Faye Wong. The queen of Chinese pop. Check out the special in Favourites. |
Group |
Oasis (English), Beyond (Chinese). I always thought that no group could recreate the magic of the Beatles until Oasis came along. If only they could pull their act together to produce more good songs. Beyond is a new favourite as I didn't really like their new songs that much. But check out their old hits, especially the Cantonese ones. |
Band |
Metallica. Doesn't quite fit in right? Actually, have been listening to their songs since young, thanks again to my brother. Looking at their new (not so grunge) Reload album after so many years down the road, I cannot help but feel that they have certainly come a long way since Kill'em All and Ride The Lightning. |
Song |
Hotel California (English), Bored (Chinese). Thanks to Kevin for introducing the Eagles song. Very uplifting just to hear the instrumental parts, especially the intro. Bored is a song I blast on with repeat mode whenever I am sad. Listening to Faye Wong drone out the lyrics is enough to drive away the blues. |
Book |
Alice In Wonderland. The all-time classic. This is what a child's life should be made of. Carefree nonsensical dreams. I am also a riddle nut, so the fact that the story is littered with literary and mathematical riddles helps. |
Author |
Lewis Caroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson). Besides the Alice series, he also wrote countless poems (often acrostics) and stories, usually under pseudonyms. He is also an amateur mathematician, and has come up with many well-known and superb puzzles. See Pandora's Box. |
Film |
Dead Poet's Society (English), Chungking Express (Chinese). DPS is a very touching and thought provoking show about how the lives of a group of English high school students were changed by their new professor. Directed by Peter Weir(The Truman Show). Chungking is a 1995 romance film set in Hong Kong. The film was quite controversial, but it was well received in the US. Stars Faye Wong. Must watch. Look under the section Favourites for lots of stuff on both films! |
Director |
Francis Ford Coppola (English), Wong Kar Wai (Chinese). Wong directed Chungking Express. Coppola did epics like the Godfather saga and Apocalypse Now, amongst others, while Wong also directed a string of controversial hits like Ashes of Time, Days of Being Wild and Fallen Angels. They both have their own distinctive styles and dare to do things which other directors may avoid for fear of losing money. |
Actor |
Robin Williams (English), Chow Yun Fatt, Stephen Chow (Chinese). Robin Williams manages to blend into his roles everytime, which proves that he puts in a lot of effort. I like him even when he dubs in animations and cartoons as he gives life to the characters. He also acted as Dr John Keating in DPS. Chow Yun Fatt is very classy (especially in Hard-Boiled) and versatile, but does not have much luck in Hollywood. Stephen is the Hong Kong king of comedians, but underneath that playful cover is someone who really acts well. |
Actress |
Jodie Foster (English), Anita Yuen (Chinese). Jodie is very experienced since she started young, and is one of few actresses who is actually quite intelligent. Anita is convincing in any role (even as a guy!) and in any genre (be it comedy, action or romance). |
Television Series |
X-Files. The spooky series which has made me paranoid. The plot does get confusing and unbelievable at times, but it is still engaging and addictive, due to the subject matter. |
Television Comedy |
Friends, Seinfeld. I can't really choose between them, but I think it'll have to be Seinfeld. That fellow can make you laugh at anything. Friends is good too, but it gets melodramatic at times and there is too much emphasis on the plot. I think I watch it more for the X-Generation feel. |
Television Gameshow |
Jeopardy. The only game show which actually challenges you, albiet too much at times. Great music too. |
Television Show |
The Late Show. David Letterman is simply the best. Even though I usually don't understand half the American in-jokes, the other half of the jokes (and Letterman himself) are enough to make me stay up till past midnight just to watch this programme. |
