No moon shone in the sky,
The wind lay silent in the clouds.
Dainty ears perked, listening for foot falls in the night.
Her tiny nostrils flared, the scent strong in the air,
Humans, out enjoying this silent night.
She creeps from the alley,
Her first hunt, excitement fills her tiny mind,
Tracking the movements of her intended victim.
A stray rock
Laying in her path, skitters across the ground,
Alerting their ears.
The human stops under the faint light of a street lamp,
Looking left and right,
Sure that they had heard something creeping along behind them.
The bebe stops, ducking into another alley
Tiny head poking around the corner before another scent hits her nose,
Anger rising as she spins, following the scent trail behind her.
Small lips draw back in a wicked snarl,
Growl rising from her chest
As she spots the very thing she had hoped to not run into.
He was small
Not much to worry about,
Except for the fact that he was her kinds sworn enemy.
The Euclides watched the Amuni bebe stalk from the shadows,
Her fur rising along the back of her neck.
Tiny jaws snapped,
Teeth flashing in the faint light.
The Amuni simply laughed,
Moving to circle his opponent.
She followed his movements,
Never giving him her back,
That would be her final mistake.
She turned on him
Intending to start the fight if he choose not to,
But it would seem that no fight was to be had.
Nothing more than a simple sniff before he was gone,
Following the Human,
Protecting them from certain doom.
Her plan failed,
Belly empty for this night
She lets her feet lead her home,
Vowing that they would meet again
And things would be different then.
