Learning Unit:

Are You a Well-Informed Young European?

Target group: pupils aged 12-19 with basic computer skills and a good command of English (intermediate-advanced)

Overall unit objective: - to improve our pupils' knowledge of Europe in general and the European Union in particular, providing them with all the information they need in order to become well-informed young Europeans

Note: The learning objects listed below are meant to engage and entertain our pupils while they master the EU subject. They can be used in many different ways depending on the teaching-learning situation, instructional and pedagogical objectives, pupils' previous knowledge and skills, classroom management (pair/group/individual work), pupils' age and their different learning styles, number of computers etc.

They can also be used at home for self-study and self-testing.

 

LO 1:  What Is the European Union?

Objective:

- pupils will demonstrate knowledge of what the EU represents as well as its objectives

Teaching method: active learning (reading + doing an interactive exercise)  and rapid feedback

Content presentation tool: web page (text, graphics and hyperlinks) about EU and its objectives

Assessment tool: gap-fill exercise with a time limit and rapid feedback

LO 2: The Symbols of the EU

Objective:

- pupils will demonstrate knowledge of the symbols of the EU

Teaching method: active learning (reading + doing an interactive exercise)  and rapid feedback

Content presentation tool: web page (text, graphics and hyperlinks) about the symbols of the EU

Assessment tool: interactive quiz with multiple choice questions, a time limit and rapid feedback

 

LO 3: EU Member States and Their Flags

Objective:

- pupils will demonstrate knowledge of the EU member states and their corresponding flags

Teaching method: active learning (reading + doing an interactive exercise)  and rapid feedback

Content presentation tool: web page (text, graphics and hyperlinks) with the EU member states and their corresponding flags

Assessment tool: matching exercise with a time limit and rapid feedback

LO 4:EU Applicant/Candidate States and Their Flags

Objective:

- pupils will demonstrate knowledge of the EU applicant/candidate states and their corresponding flags

Teaching method: active learning (reading + doing an interactive exercise)  and rapid feedback

Content presentation tool: web page (text, graphics and hyperlinks) with the  EU applicant/candidate states and their corresponding flags

LO 5: EU Institutions

Objective:

- pupils will demonstrate knowledge of the EU institutions (decision-making institutions as well as other bodies that have key roles in making the EU work.

Teaching method: active learning (reading + doing an interactive exercise)  and rapid feedback

LO 6: My Fundamental Rights in the European Union

Objective:

- pupils will demonstrate knowledge of

the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU

Teaching method: active learning (reading + doing an interactive exercise)  and rapid feedback

Assessment tool: interactive quiz and rapid feedback

Objective:

- pupils will demonstrate knowledge of famous Europeans and their achievements
