Before you begin, here are some of the things that you should consider (to facilitate you in constructing the preamp):
Tools (must have): Tweezer, long-nose plier, wire cutter (sometimes it's referred to as "nibbler"), #2 phillips screwdriver, #2 slot type screwdriver, good quality rosin flux electrical grade solder (60%tin, 40%lead)(sorry, no plumbling solder or jewellery grade silver-bearing solder here please), soldering iron(25Watts to 40Watts, auto-regulated best if you are an avid DIYer), digital/analog multimeter (with ohms, DC volts (up to 750VDC), AC volts (up to 750V ACV or better)), alligator wires (with alligator clips on both ends, of course), cellulose sponge (moistened for cleaning soldering iron tip)
Tools (nice to have, but not a must):
Desoldering pump (or wick), sand-paper (#280 to 400 grit, wet/dry type, to sand down tough, oxidised component leads and such), magnifying glass (to aid the identification of resistor colour bands, LED polarities, etc.), wire stripper, utility knife (you just don't know when you need it most) and maybe some other stuff?
Doc's ETSeduction phono preamp kit (note: do a "once-over" of the component checklist and contact Doc B. if you are missing any parts of have questions). |

Another note: instead of doing what I did to ETForeplay site before: baby-walking newbies with detailed step-by-step instructions, this time I decide to provide information that I believe is important to the success of ETSeduction.
As a level-2 DIY builder I expect you to possess all the basic essential skills such as proper understanding and measurement-taking using DVM/analog multimeter, proper soldering techniques, component preparation and proper wiring/ground buss layout, etc. before you begin to tackle this project. Please understand that while I have absolutely nothing against neophytes interested in building an ET Seduction kit, the technicalities involved in minimising construction failures and also diagnosing any potential problems such as hum, ground loops, are of magnitudes more difficult compared to a level-1 kit such as Foreplay, etc. This is due to tremendously high gain levels involved. In other words, IMHO this kit is not suitable for those faint-hearted... |
