Daily Word

Love can only grow when you plant it in someone else's field.

Mother Teresa wrote this mission tale in her diary one night, "I will never forget the night an old gentleman came to our house and said that there was a family with eight children and they had not eaten, and would we do something for them. So I took some rice and went there. The mother took the rice from my hands, then she divided it into two and went out. I could see the faces of the children shining with hunger. When she came back I asked her where she had gone. She gave me a very simple answer: 'They are hungry also.' And 'they' were the family Next Door and she Knew that they were hungry. I was not surprised that she gave, but I was surprised that she knew."

Today, this very moment, is the perfect time to renew my sense of oneness with all humankind. I begin by closing my eyes and seeing neighbor helping neighbor in times of need. I envision children laughing and playing together in perfect harmony. I picture caring people from every nation holding hands, encircling the earth. I see each person allowing God to speak through him or her so that love and compassion continue to reign. I give thanks for the opportunity to be a friend to those closest to me as well as to those in the farthest reaches of the world. I know there is no separation between each one of us, no barrier or boundary that the love of God cannot overcome. Renewed in spirit and filled with thoughts of love and compassion, I can declare my oneness in spirit with all humanity.

"Love one another deeply from the heart." -1 Peter 1:22
