Computer technology and informatics will mark
21st century. Therefore everyone must have at last basic computer
skills.
Being a teacher is a job you get paid for. A lot of people,
usually those who have never been in contact with the teaching process, treat
this profession as any other. But being a teacher, especially a good one
requires a lot more than just going to work every day, spending a few hours in
an office and coming back home.
The teaching profession is among the
noblest ones as it has to do with the most expensive products of the mankind -
our children. It is not only that a good teacher should be very well trained in
his subject of teaching, but also he or she should have a variety of
professional and personal qualities. For example, a good teacher is always
punctual and expects his students to be punctual, too. But he will be always
full of understanding for all his students’ excuses and reasons for absences or
unfulfilled tasks and will never ”make a lot of noise” in front of the other
students, giving his advice of “how can you miss to do this or that
?”
The best teacher accumulates knowledge all his life and revises his
teaching skills frequently. He or she uses a variety of activities to make his
classes interesting and full with challenge for the students. Finally, a good
teacher is very much familiar with children’s psychology and has the qualities
of leadership to help him lead his students through the challenges of
life.

Most often people start learning about computers with office
packages because they are the most frequently used programs. In Macedonia the
most popular office package is Microsoft Office or more precisely text
processor Microsoft Word and spreadsheet program Microsoft Excel. We strongly
recommend transition to free version of Sun Microsistems's Star office package
called OpenOffice. The
reasons are:
- OpenOffice is compatible programm with
Microsoft Office. With OpenOffice you can open Microsoft Office's file, edit it
and even save it as Microsoft Office file. Of course, even between different
versions of same program (for example Microsoft Office 98 and Microsoft Office
XP) there is no complete (100%) compatibility. So, probably you will need at
last a little to edit old Microsoft Office files if you want to gain exactly the
same appearance of old files under OpenOffice. But, that is very low
price.
- If you still want to stay with yyour
Windows, instead to switch to Linux, you still should consider using of free
office package OpenOffice, because there is version of this office package for
Microsoft Windows.
- Finally, there is translated verrsion of
OpenOffice to Macedonian. Not only the good filing, but also the efficiency and
productivity when someone work on computer with mother tongue are
incomparable.
Advanced users want to learn about programs for
graphics editing, publishing, web design or even programming. For that
purpose, there is a lot of programs from Adobe, Corel... OpenOffice's program Draw
can do a lot of things with vector graphics (regular drawings). The image
manipulation program The GIMP
can handle very good with bit-mapped graphics (pictures), for which there is
Windows version. For web publishing, we recommend you this programs:
- The web browser Mozzila, which has incorporated
WYSIWYG (What you See Is What you Get) web editor
- The program Quanta Plus
This programs, as all other programs under Linux,
are free.
