Training
on How to Implement a Quality System based on ISO 9001: 2000 Background We are
living in the age of Total Quality Management (TQM). The word “Total”
signifies that everyone must be involved and committed to supply Quality
product/service while the word “Management” stressed that “Total Quality”
must be managed as it doesn’t just happen. In its own development, TQM passed
three stages: Quality Inspection (QI), Quality Control (QC) and Quality
Assurance (QA). QI and QC
focus on final and all stages inspections, respectively, to control quality
problems. QA is based on systems deployment to prevent quality problems,
while ISO 9000 is an international standard for QA since it was introduced in
1987. In the last decades, many organizations have come to
appreciate the strategic importance of managing a quality system using ISO
9000. As a result, the number of
certifications by the ISO 9000 are increasing at a rate between 50-100% per
annum and the total number of companies and organizations certified to ISO
9000 have reached over 500,000. Among others, the reasons for introducing the
ISO 9000 are: it provides objective evidences, maintains consistency, brings
clarity and transparency, excellent marketing tool, provides an auditable
system, forms the basis for applying an effective TQM process- continuous
improvement etc. The training objectives -To provide participants with the basic concepts of
quality management - To make understood the scope and implications of ISO
9001: 2000 -To enable participants on how to design and develop a
quality system based on an ISO 9001: 2000 -To guide participants on how to formulate quality policy,
establish quality objectives and draw-up quality plans -To enable participants on how to prepare quality manual
and procedures -To provide guidance on the necessary steps to be taken
for implementation of ISO 9001 and its certification by accredited body. The training agenda 1. The development of quality management 2. Economics of quality: Cost of quality 3.
ISO9001:2000 Requirements: Management responsibility, Resource management,
Product realization, and Measurement, Analysis and Improvement 4. Quality system documentation: developing a quality
manual and procedure 5. Quality Control Tools 6. Quality system implementation & certification 7. Infrastructure for ISO 9000 8. A case
study on TQM in Training methodology Wherever possible, attempts are made to accompany and
explain the ISO 9001: 2000 QMS standard requirements with the basic concepts
of Quality Management and practical
examples respectively. I believe that this would harness the requirements
which urge you "to document what you do and to do what you
document." The training is aided by a template: the Blueprint for ISO 9000. The Blueprint provides a
sample quality manual and a number of quality assurance procedures on a
floppy disk. The documents should
benefit you in two ways. The first involves using these as a template to set
out the structure and format of your unique quality documentation. The second
is that they provide you with ideas on how to get started, what areas to
cover and the amount of details required, etc. Targeted participants The total number of participants in the training should be
not more than 20 individuals. No prior knowledge of quality management is
assumed as the training covers relevant quality management concepts and
practices to the ISO 9001:2000. The training is structured around the needs of quality
managers and experts, production supervisors and foramen, sales and human
resource staffs, etc. It is also designed for those who requiring decision-
making information for a strategic approach to ISO 9000 implementation and
certification Duration of the training The training takes 22 hours which is delivered in four
consecutive days. As deemed necessary, it would be delivered over a period
your organization may propose. However, the training should be completed
within three consecutive weeks. Venue and cost of the
training The training is delivered at your organization's premise
or at a venue of your organization's
choice for which the cost is born by the organization in addition to a modest training fee, Birr
4,500. The instructor The training will be delivered by Wondirad Seifu, who has acquired an
extensive experience as a quality expert in the Ethiopian manufacturing
industry and as an instructor on Quality management at the Ethiopian Management Institute for
