Laurie's story continues...

I was very shy growing up as well as very self conscious, yet I still had a strong desire to learn how to play the guitar and sing. One day my best friend at the time, gave me her guitar to practice on. SO, I practiced every day for hours and hours until I could hear my father shouting from his office "I do think that 2 hours are enough Laurie!" (He was studying for his Bar Exam). The desire for music grew even stronger in me. As the hours turned into days and the days into weeks, months and eventually years, the Lord also gave me lyrics to my "chords" and they just began to flow.

One night I was watching a variety type of show when I saw a girl singing and playing the guitar...and right then and there I prayed and asked God to help me with this "Dream" I had...and he did.

I found a book on chords and strumming and I continued to practice. God gave me a very "UNIQUE" style of singing and writing. The music comes directly from God since I read very little music and write none as well.

God started to get me up at all hours of the night with melodies and lyrics..it was hard to get up at 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 am, yet I chose to be obedient to Him and I am so glad that I was!!

During all of this I wasn't even saved and yet I was writing the words and music to "The Lord Is My Savior"..oblivious of God's initial plan on my life.

I started playing my guitar with my sister while she played her flute. Then playing the guitar on the beaches and with my friends...wherever there was an opportunity. Eventually, I played in various lodges, restaurants, coffee houses and events around the San Diego area. In the beginning, I was laughed at by some and was told that I wouldn't amount to anything...God knew better!!!

I played/sang in a couple of bands on various Navy/Marine bases in the San Diego area. The Top Gun Training Base to name one, plus other Non-Commissioned and Commissioned officer's clubs.
