“FUNDAY” 17th March 2009
It was
certainly a well attended event, 9 matches or 18 Climbers having played, with all but one having moved step, some climbing up but many more climbing down. The POSITON changed dramatically and a summary of the changes for statistics lovers is:1 Climber remained on the previous position
7 Climbers climbed-up
17 Climbers climbed-down
Among all the players, a unique unisex prize was disputed, for the "nearest-to-pin-in-two" on hole 11. Eddie L was the winner.
In the evening, dinner following drinks took place at Clube Alto da Barra, in Oeiras, a good occasion to consecrate the winners of 2008. Before announcing the winners the "administrator" welcomed all the players and non-playing spouses and took the opportunity to address Auke B still recovering beautifully from important surgery, as well as Carl E, who could not play, both accompanied by their beloveds. Special guests of the evening were Carole and John B, both Founder Members. They are in the process of moving back to the UK and we wished them the best of luck, the "administrator" presenting them with a souvenir to remind them of the good times we all shared during their stay in Portugal.
The prizes were then presented to 2008 winners:
THE SUMMIT - Eddie L got his name for the 4th time engraved on the shield, his steadiness being highlighted for having started at step 1 in 2008 and managed to easily stick to it, defending the position after a playoff among the "TOP 4" at the end of November 2008;
As "runners-up" attending dinner Isabel N and António V were awarded one "Calhau" from Madeira, each;
THE CLIMBER awarded to the Member who has climbed more steps during the year; starting at step 25, Max Z, finished at step 5.
EL LUTADOR awarded to the Member that played more matches during the year, Auke B, who played 12 matches, a good effort, from step 21 to step 13;
Another prize - another "Calhau" from Madeira - was presented to Richard E to compensate him for all the hard work despite the fact that after playing 9 matches starting at step 16, he managed to finish at step 16....
There was also an opportunity during dinner to discuss a new rule proposed to be introduced. It refers to a situation in which a Climber occupying step 1 [THE SUMMIT] does not play any match for 2 calendar months, he/she should drop one step. The large majority of the Members present agreed with the ammendment from "2" to "1" month. The final wording shall be published soon.
