The Final Fantasy Movie is being developed in Honolulu, Hawaii at the Squaresoft studios there - conveniently between Japan and LA.  The film's current budget is $137 million US.  It's 100% CG animation, meaning they use advanced 3d software and photorealistic techniques. There's a team of 250 designers, animators, and programmers at work on it.

CAPTURING MOTION

To capture 'perfect human motion,' a real  human model is used.  The model wears a black suit with ping-pong-like balls attached.  David Walters, the model in this case, follows instructions on running, jumping, etc.  The motion capture line producer, Remington Scott, tells him which actions to perform on the large grid on Square's  16,000 sq ft sound stage.  10 specialized cameras surround the grid - they record the motions and send the information  to nearby computers.  The images transmitted are white dots against a black background.  The dots are connected to produce a somewhat human form.

more to come soon, it's all a matter of time.
