Michael Wilbon has been said to be a pioneer of sports
columnists who have been successful in crossing over the line that seperates newspapers and television. Like his co-host Tony Kornheiser on PTI, Wilbon is a sports columnist for The Washington Post.
Wilbon, a native of Chicago, IL, hopped on at The Washington Post in 1980, when he was sent to cover various sporting events. By 1990, he had been upgraded to full time sports columnist for the paper, and started covering The Olympics in 1984 for The Post.
He won his first award for journalism in 2001, as he was chosen as the top sports columnist of the year by the Society of Professional Journalists. He has also been selected to a list of the top three journalists in the nation by The Associated Press three times.
