Ever since it began airing on September 22, 2001, Pardon the Interruption has been one of ESPN's most watched shows. A fast-paced, sports talk show, the show is hosted by Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon, two Washington Post columnists with what are usually different opinions.
PTI is split into four segments, of which I will go into detail.
The show starts off with, what other than, the first segment. This segment of the show is where Mike and Tony take turns expressing their personal views on the current day's top sports news.
The second segment of Pardon the Interruption is called "Five Good Minutes". This part of the show is used to have a 5-minute conversation with a top newsmaker of the week or an analyst who can give their expert opinion on the story.
After the second commercial break, the third segment starts. In this Mike and Tony will usually voice their opinions in a different manner. The two will either answer e-mails from the viewersin "Mail Time!", put themselves into a newsmaker's point of view with a mask of that person, act as police in Cop Time!", or make their own lists of certain categories (for instance, Top Active NFL Quarterbacks).
The show concludes with the fourth segment of the show, where they round it all up. In this last segment they will start with Happy Happy Time! where they celebrate an athlete's birthday, then celebrate an anniversary of a popular sports story or event, then say goodbye to a sports person, league, team, or event as it leaves the sports world. Next is "Errors", where Statboy corrects any inadvertent false statements that Mike or Tony may have made during that day's show. Now the show ends with the one-minute finale"The Big Finish", where the two co-hosts very briefly discuss those stories or topics that they did not get to in the first 29 minutes.
