I am a collector of old articles, stamps, books, coins, and photographs. I never throw anything away, subsequently I have accumulated what one may call junk Mile high club
Gardening,Music,Philosophic debate, and Table Tennis are my passions.
A small circle of friends I have, make that two circles.
Circle one is my friends at church (the click) in spite of all the changes my church has gone through the click has stayed together. We've been together for quite some time. We started out as members of a young adult choir at our church, with all of the rehearsals and concerts we've grown closer. I remember all those rehearsals for;The Creation; by Hayden. We did all that rehearsing but we never got to perform it. I guess our director thought we were not ready. I didn't mine cause it was the rehearsing that was the part I enjoyed. Yep we had a good choir mainly because we enjoyed coming to rehearsal can't remember any time in my life when I wasn't singing in someones choir. But I was fortunate I had renowned Directors. In high school I had Albert Mcneal of Dorsey High Los Angles. In college Dr.J Harrison Wilson and Maurine F. Baily at Bishop College. Then there was my church choir where I had three directors, my mom Lena Estell ,my aunt ,Vallie Jo Estell and a good friend of my mom Serita Lattimore. You would think with all that singing I would know how to read music, well I don't, at lease not yet (smile) .The second circle is (the purple gang)my college friends. We were a study group,we were very anti establishment, and black militant and we looked out for each other. The purple Gang consisted of six people, myself, Sonya, Annie, Bean, Bea, and Iris. We have so many Memorable times I could write a book. One experience stands out. One Friday evening we all got into my car(Pandemonium) and we went to the Apparel Mart to hear Nina Simone. We didn't know it was a Black Tie affair. So they put us in the back out of site. I guess army fatigues and free Bobby Seals buttons were not acceptable. Well anyway when the show started and Miss Simone came on stage, she started to sing and when she saw us. She had the usher to bring us up to the stage. We sat on the stage floor while she performed. She said she felt more at home with her black brothers and sisters on stage with her. Yes we had a great time back in the day and I will always cherish those experiences . now that we have gone our separate way and started our families I wonder If we will ever come together again. I try to stay in touch with as many as possible but some of those old souls are hard to keep up with.I love them all.
