August 8th, 2002 Hmm....nice to be writing again, that's to be sure. Though there is the lack of traffic through my site. heh. I picked The Zen of Direct3D Game Programming in June and I have slowly going through it. I'm finally to the 3D engine part of it. Though the way the author writes his code makes me cringe. Global variables all over the place! It's horible! Everything I have been taught thrown out the window. But I decided to go with the flow. It really bothers me cause really new programmers will look at it and incorporate it into their own code. That's just wrong on all levels. He also combines classes with free functions. The classes are even dependant on the free functions. Like I said, wrong on all levels. I guess I am learning the damn API. I'm hoping to finish the book before school starts again. I really want to make my own engine for the experience. At the very least, create a more friendly version of the code in this damned book. With working examples and send it back to the author saying how that is how to make source code. Anway, I kind of started to do a journal on the computer. Well, it's more of a writing journal. Just write whatever comes to mind and skip most mistakes. Already discovered one interesting idea. :) Well, I'm running out of juice for the night. See ya'll later -Keith |
