Information for Travelers

Flying Into Town
If you'll be flying in for the wedding, the airport to choose is OKC - Oklahoma City Will Rogers International. All major airlines offer service to Oklahoma City, and Southwest and Frontier often have good deals if they service your home airport. Airline ticket buyer beware (aeris vehiculum caveat emptor?), I know it sounds small, but there is no reason you have to fly through Atlanta to get there; another common tactic is to have several layovers. Although direct flights from the coasts to OKC are rare, Continental flies a couple non-stops out of Newark per day and most other airlines require only one stop.

Driving
Oklahoma isn't considered part of the heartland for nothing - it's smack in the middle of the country, 310 miles south of the geographic center of the continental United States. It's about 24 hours driving time from either coast, 12 hours from Chicago, 10 hours from Nashville, and 8 hours from both Santa Fe and Houston. The list goes on, but you can pretty much be assured that Oklahoma City is a certain number of hours driving from just about anywhere you might be. Oklahoma City is at the crossroads of I-35, I-44, and I-40. Also, Route 66 runs right through Edmond, our hometown, on its long meandering journey from Chicago to California. The beauty of driving, other than seeing the parts of the country you'd otherwise only fly over, is that regardless of the length of the trip, my father has proven that it can be completed without stops, air conditioning, or sustenance.

Once You Get There
If you're flying in, be warned that Oklahoma doesn't have the mass transit system of New York. It doesn't even have the mass transit system of LA. There is a bus route in Edmond, but it goes from Denny's to Walmart, fine places indeed but probably not the extent of your intended travels. Don't count on cabs, either, as they're few, far between, and expensive. We can easily arrange transporation to the major events of the weekend, but if you want to get out and see Oklahoma (which you should), you'll need a rental car if you hope for independance. If you'd like to participate in a ride sharing program with other people coming in, which may include old friends of ours, friends from work, or my crazy cousins, and are willing to pony up some bucks to offset the costs of gas and the rental, let me know, and I'll see if I can hook you up.

When you get here, you'll probably need a room because my room is already taken. Oklahomans are friendly, but they fear strangers, so I wouldn't count on staying with someone you meet at the Wolf Trap. The Irish haven't really made their way to Oklahoma in force and the Catholics are far outnumbered, so when we asked hotels to block off some rooms for us they obliged...with ten rooms each. We've called every hotel in town, and each one has a limited number of rooms at a special rate under Erwin/O'Neill Wedding. Please consult the list below for hotel locations and phone numbers. Also, if you call one of these hotels and find they have given away all the rooms to persons more prompt than you, throw everyone else a bone and let us know so we can update the list.
