Disciples of Blue Man

What is Blue Man Group?

From the Blue Man website

"Blue Man Group is a creative organization dedicated to creating exciting and innovative work in a wide variety of mediums.

Blue Man Group is best known for its award-winning theatrical productions which critics have described as "ground-breaking", "hilarious", "visually stunning" and "musically powerful." These performances feature three enigmatic bald and blue characters who take the audience through a multi-sensory experience that combines theatre, percussive music, art, science and vaudeville into a form of entertainment that is like nothing else. People from all over the world, from all walks of life and from all age groups have become fans of Blue Man Group's show in New York, Boston, Chicago and most recently Las Vegas.

Blue Man Group is also known for it's unique style of music which is played on a variety of invented instruments. Blue Man Group's debut album, AUDIO has just been released on Virgin Records. One reviewer called it "a glorious wall of sound."

Who ARE the Blue Man Group?

The original Blue Man Group consisted of Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton, and Chris Wink. However, multiple shows have sprung up in Chicago, Boston, and recently Las Vegas (February 2000), in addition to New York.

In the Las Vegas program there is a listing titled : Blue Man Played By : Matthew Banks, Chris Bowen, Jeffrey Brown, Jeffrey Doornbos, Eric Gebow, Ryan Gerard, Brett Gillen, Matt Goldman, Randall Jaynes, Scott Kinworthy, Anthony Parrulli, Brian Scott, Phil Stanton, and Chris Wink.

How did Blue Man Group come about?

Not much is really known, although as Disciples, we'll try and decipher this great mystery. However, here is an interesting bit from the 'old'(?) Blue Man website :

'The concept of the Blue Man Group emerged out of salon style meetings hosted in 1987 by Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton, and Chris Wink. Soon the three longtime friends began organizing a series of ‘happenings’ such as "Club Nowhere" and "Funeral for the Eighties," which took place in and around New York’s Central Park. Shortly thereafter, they were appearing in performance spaces in the East Village, such as Dixon Place, Performance Space 122, and the Wooster Group’s Performing Garage.'

How do I become a Blue Man, or contribute to the Blue Man Group?

The Blue Man website has listings for openings on crew and casting calls. In addition, the production crew is looking for members to join the Blue Man street team, which helps hand out flyers, spread word, etc. for Blue Man shows. Here is the e-mail address to sign up :

[email protected]

What is the name of the song at the end of the show?

The song is called "Last Train to Trancentral" by the group KLF, (Kopyright Liberation Front). It can be found on their CD called "The White Room."

What is the Disciples of Blue Man?

On June 8th, 2000, a group of five friends saw the Las Vegas production of Blue Man Group. Of the five, three were amazed by what they saw and heard. They decided that they would do whatever they could to help promote Blue Man Group, if they could not become a part of the troupe itself. Shortly after it was decided that a website would be made to keep Blue Man fans informed of all the latest information as well as become a depository for fan work. In addition, the Disciples decided to post individual web pages with non-Blue Man related content to entertain visitors during slow periods of news.

What is Disciple Players?

We hope that if you have made it this far, you have an open mind.

It has been my experience that most open-minded people like to engage in some form of game playing, from Chess to Quake. Games are a great way to break the ice between strangers as both sides engage in friendly (we hope) competition, and in some cases work together to achieve some common goal. So, we've formed what is commonly referred to as a 'guild' or 'clan' of Blue Man fans. Silly, we know... but all work and no play make Jack a dull Blue Man.

How do I become a Disciple?

Send a check or money order for $50 to... just kidding. : ) Well, really there isn't a whole lot to the er, 'sign-up' process. Some simple rules apply of course :

  • Don't misrepresent the Blue Man Group or Disciples in ANYWAY.
  • Contribute to the site as much as possible.
  • All Disciples should be signed up for the Blue Man Group street team.
  • Don't be a total git.
