Here are some examples of my bookbinding work - new things will be added regularly. I never repeat a design, but if you see something you like for yourself, we can talk about it - I'm usually eager to please, sometimes difficult, but never impossible.

Bound Fanfic

Rain

This is my own personal copy of Rain by Lobelia Sackville-Baggins - one of my absolute favourites. (If you haven't read it, you can do so here). It's printed on 90gsm acid-free ivory laid, and the binding is a black lambskin quarter-bind. The boards are covered in printed paper in black and gold. Silk headband, satin bookmark, mock parchment end sheets.

Journals and Sketchbooks

Dragonfly

A perfect-bound (ie, with sheets that are glued together rather than sewn, allowing pages to be torn out without damaging the rest of the book) sketchbook, 110 gsm acid-free textured drawing paper. Quarter-bound in black lambskin, boards covered in printed paper and varnished. Satin head- and tailbands, beadwork dragonfly and raised gold dragonfly motif on front cover.

Another perfect-bound A5 sketchbook, this one made for a friend. It's full-bound in black glove leather with a cut-out design on the front cover. Underneath is a painting in acrylics, ink and gold leaf. The end sheets are marbled in red and dark green. The headband is silk, and the tail decoration is a Venetian glass bead. It features a three-tab closure along the fore edge, which also functions as a pen holder.

Crow sketchbook

Mosaic journal

A sewn A5 journal - 110 gsm acid-free unruled cartridge paper. Half-bound in brown calf-skin, boards covered in gold mosaic print paper, Ingres end sheets. The headband and bookmark are silk, and the bookmark is decorated with a gold bead.
A sewn journal, format and paper as before. Bound in black glove leather and handmade Bangladeshi marbled paper, with design of horses painted in silver acrylic paint. Ingres end sheets, satin headband and triple silk bookmarks.

Moon book

beaded headband

This journal is sewn together and quarter-bound in antiqued leather. The boards are covered in gold paper stitched with a spiral pattern in gold thread. The silk bookmark is decorated with beads, and the end sheets are dark metallic copper-coloured paper. The headband is beaded with bronze and green glass beads.

Gold stitch sketchbook

Suede butterfly journal

Another sewn A5 journal - 110 gsm acid-free unruled cartridge paper. Full-bound in dove grey suede, with a cutout on the front holding a gold butterfly under a semi-transparent black silk ribbon. The end sheets are hand printed in Zimbabwe, white with a pattern of birds and butterflies in gold. There is a silk bookmark (which was decorated with an Indian foil-center glass bead after this photograph was taken). The front edge has a three-tab pen holder and closure.
Sketchbook with removable pages, quarter bound in black buckram. The boards are covered in a collage made from old Japanese guide books, with pictures of Buddha statues, gold friezes and various painted details, such as gold finger prints. The bookmark is decorated with a red glass bead and a black silk tassel, and the end sheets are red ingres. Along the front edge is an asymmetrical three-tabb pen closure, holding a Japanese calligraphy brush.

Seashell sketchbook

Full-bound sketchbook in brown calf leather with pen tab and closure made from a seashell. Twisted silk headband, seashell-print end sheets and raised gold design on front cover.

Bound Fanzines

Inside a Song - front

Inside a Song - inside

This is the design that Cara Loup, the editor of Inside a Song has authorised. It's perfect bound (ie, glued), quarter-bound in sienna coloured suede, and the boards are covered in handmade paper decorated with gold dust. The end sheets are hand-printed with a pattern of leaves, and the fly-leaf is gold netting. The headband is green and gold silk, and there is a green silk bookmark.

NB. The design details may change depending on material availability, cost, and the mood of the day. If one day I get a brain wave and work out a way of making a paper that I think is more beautiful, for example, then I'm likely to use that. This ensures that every single volume is unique.
