Hit the Streets!

Don't be stuck at the hotel in your free time. Rent a car or motorcycle and travel between communities to get a firsthand look at Kiribati way of life and culture. Hit up mom and pop stores scattered along the road, or check out newer shopping complexes such as TTT's in Tabwakea or the new KPF complex in London. The main road is asphault, made in the 1950's by allied forces while they conducted nuclear bomb testing. Side roads are dirt.
