That�s when my wife surprised me by walking into my office. She said that my mother had just called�-to tell us that my father had just died of a heart attack with absolutely no warning. Though the loss was extremely painful for me, the grief therapy I received was the best self-care I ever offered myself. It let me become intentional about my emotional health, and work concretely toward that wholeness of self I previously lacked. As a result, I soon reached a point where I needed to put the various pieces of my life and calling--pastoral and prophetic, theological and spiritual--all together. I sensed that ministry was still the context for doing so. About a year after my father's death, I began the process of applying to seminaries, and in the Fall of 2000, I started work on the M.Div. degree at Brite Divinity School, of Texas Christian University - back home in Fort Worth. backward to "The Ghost of Tom Joad" forward to "The Beatitudes" | |||||
