| How to free the bricked in
harddisk-IDE that in most PCs is not accessible from outside? 1. Buy from a dealer of A4Tech Mobile Racks= bay and Inner Racks=tray for HD Mobile Racks: +++++ High-Lights: Fans (1,2,3), cooling system, Multiple storage options, 3.5"/2.5", etc LED indicators, power on=green, HD access=red Do not remove the tray before the red LED indicator in the bay is off. After sliding in the tray into the bay lock it to avoid unintentional removal of the tray. Dust resistance is built in the bay. +++++ Package one: DMA-133AL, UDMA-133, 2 fans, keylock, aluminum case, new MR2. The package contains a bay and a tray. If you want more the just getting the HD out of the PC-inner-case into the tray with the bay, if you want to use more than one HD, then you have to buy more trays or even more bays if you want to use a master and a slave HD or more in your PC. Package two: DMA-133AL-IR, UDMA-133, 1 fan, aluminum case Now you can add as many trays as you want, one for every HD you want to use. More than one bay gives you even more flexibility in how you want to use your computer system. At present, in my case, I got two bays and six trays for six Hds. How to install the HD into the tray ? 1 From the Rack=bay take out the inner rack= tray while taking care of the handle, lift it up from verticle to horizontal. 2. Press the plastic square button to free the top cover and slide it back and off the inner rack=tray. 3. Take the harddisk=HD and connect the Data Cable and Power Cable=cord to the HD. 4. Put the HD into the inner rack=tray and screw it tightly four or six times, using four or six screws. 5. Read the instructions on the HD what jumper you have to use to code the different possibilities, they may differ from HD to HD or manufacturer to manufacturer: e.g. WD800BB: Master = no jumper, Slave = second from right, Master with Slave present = center, cable select setting = first from right. 6. Slide the Top Cover along the cover rails to close the tray. Now that you got all your Hds in trays and all your bays are installed in the PC case, you can start getting all Hds to work your way, as you want it. 2. Read pages from booklets and books and other sources like internet texts, articles etc. A. Sorry in German: Windows ME, Das grosse Buch, Data Becker, Seiten 1116 - 1124, FDISK, FORMAT, SCANDISK. B. Windows ME books with the keywords FDISK, FORMAT, SCANDISK, start diskette, booting, booting from diskette, booting from CD, in the index or table of contents. The goal is booting from the HD, that is why we have to partition, format and check and repair the HD, to get the operating system and many other drivers and programs onto the HD or HDs. 3. Get it done, step by step. A. Buying bays and trays B. Reading texts and sources C. Install the hardware D. Install the software E. Test every combination of master Hds, slave Hds, other master and slave drives, test the flexibility. But remember you cannot hotswap. Hot Swapping, RAID and Booting beyond the ordinary are topics of another class. If your OS is Windows ME you may encounter many strange events. First HD: WD800BB, 80 GB, 7200 RPM, EIDE Data connector with 40 pins (20x2), Power connector with 4 pins (4x1), Jumper connector with 10 pins(5x2). WD800BB: Master = no jumper, Slave = second from right, Master with Slave present = center, cable select setting = first from right. Second HD: WD600AB, 60 GB, 5400 RPM, EIDE Data connector with 40 pins (20x2), Power connector with 4 pins (4x1), Jumper connector with 10 pins(5x2). WD600BB: Master = no jumper, Slave = second from right, Master with Slave present = center, cable select setting = first from right. Third HD: Fujitsu model MPG3409AT-EV 1D:YFIM, 40 GB, 5400 RPM, EIDE Data connector with 40 pins (20x2), Power connector with 4 pins (4x1), Jumper connector with 10 pins(5x2). MPG3409: Master = second from left, Slave = second from right, Master with Slave present = center and second from left, cable select setting = center. The drives of the PC: 1. Floppy, 2. CD-RW, 3. Drive Not Ready Insert Boot Diskette (Floppy Disk) in A: Press any key when ready Insert start diskette A:\> dir enter, if it does not work try D:\> dir enter, see later. See the list of files on the floppy. The most important programs for the tasks ahead are: fdisk, format, scandisk. A:\> fdisk enter Keine Festplatte vorhanden Switch computer OFF Switch computer ON, on power on while pressing the delete key on the keyboard then you will go to BIOS Setup. It may work with other multi key options or with restart, reset the system. BIOS Setup is on the mainboard. In my case from Gigabyte. You may have to use this feature as long as their is something not working as it should. BIOS Setup contains 14 chapters, one is IDE HD Auto Detection. Make changes, go to Save and Exit Setup. You may have to change user to auto, to get the HD detected, and the secondary slave must be uninstalled to avoid an error message. Try again: A:\> fdisk enter Follow fdisk options, select and ok. Primary DOS c: created Partitioning completed. The entire HD is one Primary Partion. A:\> format c: enter ( do not use key /s) If you cannot type : or / because you get > and & instaed and the message: Invalid media typ encountered while reading drive C: If not already before this point, now may have come the time to insert the Product Recovery CD-ROM from your PC with Windows ME into the RW-drive. Try again: A:\> format c: enter Caution: All data on the harddisk of drive C: will become deleted! After this experience you go on with the other Hds and drives. |
| The computer case measures 20 cm wide, 65 cm high, 63 cm deep. Two drives can be exchanged from the outside,e.g. HD 80 GB or HD 60 GB or HD 40 GB etc. There are two bays, that can hold two trays. Both are on one cable (40 pins IDE) with two connectors, eather one can work with the master or slave jumper programmed HD. In my case, both the 80 and the 60 GB HDs are masters, the primary master. Only one master can be on the cable IDE1. The other connector of cable IDE1 must get the primary slave, another HD e.g. a second 80 GB HD or the 40 GB HD. Then both HDs can be in the system the same time. One drive is the 51/4" CD-RW, which is the secondary master on cable IDE2, connector1. The secondary slave is uninstalled, that is why we have to change the BIOS to uninstalled. You may add a DVD-RW drive and use the second connector of the IDE2 cable. Then you will decide on which device becomes the master and which the slave of the secondary IDE. The orange slot for CD-RW on cable IDE2, secondary master. The blue slot for DVD-RW on cable IDE2, secondary slave. The yellow slot for HD1 on cable IDE1, primary master. The green slot for HD2 on cable IDE1, primary slave. The brown slot for HD3 on cable Firewire. The pink slot for HD4 on cable USB 2. The violet slot for diskette drive on cable diskette. The red button for ON. Regular OFF via start menu. The black button for Reset. Four HDs and two other drives can be used manifoldly: configuration 1: HD1 master primary IDE HD2 master secondary IDE HD3 slave primary IDE HD4 slave secondary IDE CD-RW on firewire DVD-RW on USB2 configuration 2: HD1 master primary IDE HD2 slave Primary IDE HD3 on firewire HD4 on USB2 CD-RW master secondary IDE DVD-RW slave secondary IDE other configurations: with RAID: One HD is the original the other a copy of the first. with Hot Swapping: You can exchange independant HDs any time, but dependant ones together only. with Booting : from every HD. |
