I Run To You

Part Two

"I'm really glad you called." Jason said, three hours later, still seated on his bed. He and Emily had talked about everything. About her mistakes in life, about his, about how they could make things better in her life, about God and the bible. About everything.

"Yeah, me too. I feel a lot better now."

"Good."

"But it's getting late, I'm sorry I kept you on the phone so long."

"It's OK, I didn't mind. Go get some rest and call me tomorrow, OK?"

"OK, bye Jason."

"Bye Emily." Hanging up the phone, Jason smiled. As he laid back on his bed he thought of some of the things Emily had said. She had been reading the bible and wanted to learn more, and she wanted Jason to help her. Would he ever.

3 months later

"So, you're gonna be there today, right?" Emily asked as she prepared to go to her high school graduation ceremony.

"I wouldn't miss it, Em!" Jason replied.

"OK, well, find me afterwards. Your riding to mom's with me right?"

"Yeah."

"OK, cool."

"Oh, Em, I gotta go, the bus just arrived at my stop."

"OK."

"Good luck. Love you."

"Thanks, love you too."

Emily glanced at herself once more in the mirror and smiled confidently. She and Jason had continued to talk constantly on the phone, even visiting each other once or twice. They constantly read the bible together and talked and prayed. It had helped Emily become more comfortable with God and religion.

Once again she glanced at the mirror. She was ready to graduate.

'Where is he? Where is he?' Emily thought to herself as she searched the crowd for Jason's face.

"Emily!" she heard him yell behind her. Spinning around, she was greeted by his smiling face.

"Jason!" she took off running in his direction, tossing her arms around his neck in a big hug.

"Congratulations!"

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" she laughed, hugging him tighter, "I'm so glad you were able to be here."

"Hey, I wouldn't have missed this for the world. Graduating is a big deal."

"Yeah. Thank you! Come on I have to find my mom." she began pulling Jaosn off with her to find her mother.

"OK, OK." he laughed, following her quickly so he wouldn't lose her.

"Mama!" Emily yelled, spotting her mother.

"Sweetheart!" her mom grabbed her in a tight hug, "we are so proud of you!"

"Thank you."

"Hello, Jason."

"Hi, Mrs. Clark, how are you?"

"Just fine. Were so glad you made it."

"Wouldn't have missed it, maam." Emily smiled at Jason, talking with her eyes. 'You are so wonderful, thank you.'

Jason simply smiled back in response.

"Oooh, cake!" Jason said, reaching for the nearest piece. Emily laughed, "what?" he asked, taking a bite.

"Nothing." she said, grabbing her own piece. Walking outside, they both sat down at a small picnic table.

"So how have you been since I last saw you?

Emily looked up in thought, then replied, "I've been good. And you?"

"Good. Our new album isn't doing to bad and neither is my book."

"Good, good. You know, I don't think you realize how many people that book has touched. I mean, I thought it was great, but I'm biased because I think everything you do is great." Jason blushed slightly at her words.

"But seriously, I've talked to a lot of people over the internet who don't know I know you and they tell me about how much your book changed their life."

"Well good, My goal was to touch people and that's what I did."

"Yes it is." she said, taking another bite of cake.

"Oh..uh." Jason said, a smile forming on his face.

"What?" Emily asked.

"You have a bit of icing on your face..right...there." he leaned over the table and wiped the icing away with the pad of his thumb. Emily stared at his face and the look of concentration he had on it. After removing the icing, he looked up, locking his eyes with Emily's. She was closer than he thought. Slowly he moved his head forward, not quite realizing what he was doing.

A moment later their lips touched. It only lasted a split second before Emily pulled back, blinking, her hand covering her mouth.

"Um, sorry. I'm didn't mean to do that." Jason said.

"You didn't?" Emily asked.

"Umm, well, I don't know. I didn't plan it. It just happened."

"Yeah." They sat there in silence for a second before Jason finally spoke up.

"Is this going to change things? Because if so can I take it back?" he asked.

"I don't honestly know if it will change things. I always thought I might have had feelings for you, but I never acted on any of it."

"Yeah, me too."

"Well, maybe we should take this slow and just see where it leads."

"OK, I can do that." Jason replied.

"OK."

"Emily?"

"Yes?"

"Will you go out with me tomorrow night?"

Emily smiled at the question. "Yes." she replied.

"Cool."

"You look great." Jason gushed as he walked with Emily on the beach after their date.

"Thank you, you look very handsome."

"Thanks."

"Can I tell you something?" she asked out of nowhere.

"Anything."

"You know that one song ya'll sing, 'I Run To You' "

"Yes."

"I really like that song. It has always made me think of you."

"Really?"

"Yeah. I mean everything it says, I can totally relate to. Ever since that night you have been the person there for me. The one I run to. So I always wanted to say thank you. So that's what I'm doing now."

"Well, your welcome. I'm glad I was able to be that for you." Jason replied. Emily smiled in response.

"Hey Emily, Can I ask you something." Jason said, stopping where they were at.

"Sure."

"Can I please kiss you?"

"Yes." Emily whispered. Jason kissed her softly, savoring the feel of her lips on his and not pushing for anything more, because he didn't need it. This was enough. This was perfect. He pulled back and smiled at her.

"Thank you." he whispered, pulling her into a hug before they once again began to walk down the beach.
