Welcome!

The Frontenac Radio Group (FRG) is a specialized amateur radio club devoted to the pursuit of operating and technical excellence in Light Weight DXpeditions and Contesting. Our goals are:

  • 1. To promote the fun, satisfaction and competitive thrill of radio contesting.
  • 2. To help our members develop their operating and technical skills to become better operators.
  • 3. To win the club competition portion of major amateur radio contests.
  • The FRG was founded in December, 2008. We have active members located throughout Eastern Ontario. FRGers are also into DXing, technical design and construction (especially antennas), and public service.

The FRG members share a common interest in experimenting with amateur radio. FRG members have a wide range of contesting experience, from beginners to the very experienced. They willingly share their knowledge and skills to promote ham radio in Eastern Ontario.

Contesting is the sport form of amateur radio operating. In a contest, an amateur radio station, which may be operated by an individual or a team, seeks to contact as many other amateur radio stations as possible in a given period of time and exchange information. The contacts made during a contest contribute to a score by which stations are ranked and winners are determined. The FRG supports and encourages all types of contesting, from HF to light, all modes, power classes and skill levels. It brings together the talents of a large number of Amateur Radio operators in Eastern Ontario who may now focus on a common goal, in addition to traditional individual competition.
