WHERE WE ARE
For some, it's merely a matter of finding a board that shares their ideological preferences, but for others, it can be any one or any combination of the following characteristics listed under 1) and 2) that cause people to join and stay with a message board. FAM believes ALL these characteristics are essential.
1) A TRUSTWORTHY ADMINISTRATION.

FAM believes that a trustworthy administration is one that:

- Makes it's opinions, perspectives, philosophies, methods of operation, and contact information available to prospective members in plain and open verbiage so that prospective members can make an informed choice about whether or not to join.

- Respects members and applicants by not discriminating against them for any reason. Members of any and/or all ages, races, religious creeds (or lack thereof), gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, etc, should be allowed to join the board and post freely.

- Refrains from imposing its own morals, values, and ethics on members.  The ideal message board is one in which people may share their views -whatever they may be- with other members. A community is made of the sum of its parts and if the parts are suppressed by the administration, then the community cannot function .

- Fosters and preserves a non-hostile environment where members feel comfortable posting. A trustworthy administration does not hesitate to enforce its own rules for the safety of a message board's members and to maintain the sanctity of the posting environment.

- Disciplines or removes disruptive elements. A trustworthy administration acts when necessary because it recognizes that for a community to function as a whole, it cannot be imperilled by members who threaten it with spamming, trolling, slander or hostility.

- Monitors and maintains the board to try to ensure the board stays in uninterupted operation 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

2) HAPPY AND SATISFIED MEMBERS.

Happy and satisfied members are ones that:

- Offer no complaints about the board's operation, or if they have complaints, they can mention them to the administration free of fear and reprecussions.

- Enjoy the fellowship and friendship found among their peers on the message boards.

- Receive the support and encouragement they need from their fellow members and from their administration.
People join message boards for all kinds of reasons: To have fun, to make friends, to engage in fascinating conversations, and many others. But a message board is only as good as its members and the administration that looks after them. Please be on the lookout for those boards who appear to be something that they are not.

FAM would like you to know that we have posted standards here and on the previous page in plain view for you to read, and we keep a list of rules in our FAQ databases within the forums. We promise to adhere to our standards and enforce the rules we have posted, and we expect our members to hold us to this promise if they feel we have in some way failed to live up to it. If you have experienced hazing, teasing, or bullying on another message board, come to us.  We do not allow that sort of thing here.
Why should you care about message boards?
ABOUT OUR LIVES
MERCK
A STOREY'S STORY
One last thing: The AS people populating these forums are of the general consensus that the psychiatric and psychological professions have done more harm than good to Aspies. Many of had negative experiences and wish to have no contact with therapists and doctors. To respect the needs and wants of its constituency,  Fellowship of the Aspergian Mircle forums do not accept people from the psychiatric or psychological professions who seek people with AS for surveys and studies.

And if you want to vent about your negative experiences with therapists and meds, you can do so freely here.
We support Midnight in Chicago.
