| Fellowship of the Aspergian Miracle is a web site and series of message boards specifically designed for people with Asperger Syndrome (AS) and Highly Functioning Autism (HFA). It was created and is administered by diagnosed and self-diagnosed people with AS/HFA. The term "Aspergian" is derived from "Asperger" and refers to members of a closed message board on the web site www.aspergia.com. Though the administrator of www.aspergia.com has given us permission to use the term "Aspergian" and the "Min" symbol on our site and groups, we are not in any way affiliated with www.aspergia.com. There are presently three message boards that are publicly listed on the web for people seeking friendship and support: |
| FAM Secret Shield is a forum set up specifically for people with AS and/or HFA that have been or are being bullied, either at home, at school, at work, on other message boards, or wherever else bullying has taken or does take place. The goal is for participants to discuss freely their experiences and their feelings with others, to form new friendships, and to become empowered with the strength to overcome their difficulties |
| Each board has special features helpful to its particular population of members. Chat is available on all boards for those who wish to have a more live and personal interaction with one another, and articles are archived for perusal on all boards. Links to other useful sites are also present. More FAM boards may appear over time and those within the FAM Secret Society have the advantages of certain perks not set up or available to the members of the other two boards. It is important to remember that as more and more people are diagnosed with AS and/or HFA, they will become curious about what their diagnosis means in general and what their diagnosis means for them specifically going forward. In many cases it means a rediscovery of their whole being and so safe and friendly resources ought to be available for them to use, and secure forums ought to be in place for them to get to know and befriend others like them. These two needs describe two of the purposes of the FAM family of forums. Another purpose is to provide Aspies and HFAs message boards that are devoid of the "agendas" that are frequently in evidence on other sites. As Aspies and HFAs become more aware of themselves and their capabilities, they may as a matter of course seek to unite under different causes and banners so that they may advocate for themselves or better pursue their goals. While this is certainly admirable, FAM refuses to align itself with a cause or agenda except that of friendship, respect, and support. It is the belief of this administration that we are first and foremost people and secondly a special segment of the population, and so FAM encourages unity for those reasons and no others. Causes under any other social, political, economic, or religious banner are best left to other and more suited purviews. Links to such purviews may be found within the various forums and on this site. At the same time, if FAM members choose to discuss how they may advocate for themselves or the community, they are permitted and encouraged to do so. No topics are forbidden, but coarse and profane language are discouraged and kept to a minimum. Sexual and reproductive-related topics must be non-erotic and non-pornographic in description and verbiage and confined to common and respected English diction and usage. Verbal attacks, trolling, and stalking are not permitted or allowed. There are rules in place to safeguard against breakage of these and other edicts and to discipline violators. The Administration of FAM will do all it can to avoid the sort of dis-integration of its message boards and forums that has been seen on many other forums and boards on the web. Please take some time to visit the Yahoo Groups listed above and join those that appeal to you. And if you are AS/HFA and do not wish to join at this time, please remember that FAM will be here for you if you should need us in the future. |
| FAM Secret Society is a message board designed for people with AS and HFA to safely discuss whatever is on their minds including topics not necessarily related to AS or HFA. Many former members from the www.aspergia.com message board post there and those people from www.aspergia.com who have not yet arrived are always welcome. |
| FAM Family Forum is for neurologically typical (NT) parents and NT family members of those with AS and/or HFA to discuss AS and HFA with AS/HFA people. FAM believes that communication and better understanding are the keys to fostering better familial relations between NTs and AS/HFAs. What better way to facilitate this process than through a message board where people can ask questions and receive answers in an environment free from hostility? |

| WARNING! The AS people populating these forums are of the general consensus that the psychiatric and psychological professions have done more harm than good to Aspies. Many of had negative experiences themselves and wish to have no contact with therapists and doctors. To respect the needs and wants of its constituency, Fellowship of the Aspergian Mircle forums do not accept people from the psychiatric or psychological professions who seek people with AS for surveys and studies. |
