My name is Darin
Davies; I am a 26 year old male living in Johannesburg South
Africa.
Here is my story in short, and afterwards why I have wanted
to tell you and why I thought you may be interested.
21st October 2000
Whilst on duty at work in a large 5 star hotel a colleague and
myself stepped on to a Mitsubishi
escalator.
As we were about to step off the escalator, the step that I
was standing jerked violently.
Confused, and in agony I shouted out my foot is stuck. Horrified
I looked down to see the end of my foot being shredded by the
escalator mechanisms. My colleague screamed out for security
while I desperately attempted to pull my foot out of my tightly
laced up leather shoes. Finally I managed to free my foot, leaving
my sock, shoe and shredded toes behind in the teeth of the escalator
ramp. Security and my colleague assisted me down the next flight
of stairs where I walked out the front of the hotel and caught
a cab to the nearest hospital.
