With only a few minutes left, the group met up with Vincent near the mouth of the mine, when suddenly, a massive hydra with five heads, each vastly different than the one before it, came roaring into the mine, blocking their escape.
"I see that the Empire hasn't stopped its genetic experiments," said Kisaragi, with a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
"We sodon't have time for this," Lockheart said. "But it looks like we don't have a choice." With that they all pulled out their weapons and started running toward the enormous beast. As they approached it, the crimson colored head spewed a torrent of lava, knocking the team back.
"What the?" Wallace said in disbelief. Suddenly, the monster's blue head shot out a blast of ice. However, instead of being frozen, Avalanche was surrounded by a cloud of steam. After a few seconds, Strife figured it out.
"Yeah! go Vincent!" He said, regarding the dragon who had countered the mutant's attack with his fire breath. Knowing that every second counted, the team picked their weapons back up and started attacking the beast.
"Nothing seems to phase it!" Kisaragi shouted after being knocked back yet again. "We've thrown everything we have at this thing, but it hasn't even been scratched!"
At that very moment, Strife felt the same power flow through him as back in the research lab. "Not everything," he replied to Kisaragi's statement. This time however, the energy did not release itself in a shock wave, but instead materialized itself into the form of a blade. Taking his newly formed saber, Strife charged up to the creature and sliced it asunder.
"Whoah..." Wallace whispered in disbelief of what had just happened, along with the rest of the group who were standing awestruck.
"C'mon, this place is gonna blow any second! We gotta' get out of here now!" Strife yelled to them with his energy sword fading away. Realizing the urgency of the situation, the group dashed out and took flight just as they heard a rumbling from deep within the mine. Seconds later as they were in the air, a billow of flame and smoke rushed out of the mine entrance.
"Whew! That one was so close, I think my wings were scorched," Lockheart commented.
"All in all, I think it went pretty well. Good job team, how about we go buy a round of drinks. Heck, I'll even pay!" Wallace joked as they all flew back to a nice, rewarding meal.
