Chapter two: To Prove Your Worth

Strife had been looking for Avalanche for a week now, and he finally had a lead to the whereabouts of the fugitive group. An old wyvern had told him about a fortuneteller in the rural areas of the empire. Though it cost a substantial fee, the soothsayer told Strife that the group was located in the run down sector six area near the heart of the city. While Strife thought that the fortunetellers methods of finding the group using her "ultimate mystical powers" as she called it were fallible, he was desperate for a chance to join. At the coordinates, he saw a grimy old door with a keep out sign, but he knocked on the door nonetheless. A wyvern appeared in the doorway and asked why he was there. "I want to join Avalanche!" Strife stated boldly.

"Quiet," the wyvern in the doorway snapped at him in a whisper, and motioned him in. Inside, the wyvern silently talked to him, as if someone was watching. "So ya wanna join Avalanche, huh?"

"Yes sir! Very much, sir!"

"Well first, you gotta prove your loyalty an' strength. And I've got a mission for ya that'll do just that," he told Strife in an odd drawl. "Steal some blueprints on the wyvern army's new laser superweapon, so they won't be able ta' use it for killin'."

By the time Strife got to the research lab where the blueprints were stored, he had already devised a tactful plan. Using his soldier license, Strife was able to get to the level 2 clearance floor. However, the blueprints were stored on level 3, so he would have to get them the sneaky way. He climbed into an air duct, and made his way up to level three and dropped down inside the data room. After loading the files on the laser, he deleted them from the computer. Suddenly, an alarm sounded, signaling a squad of guards into the room. "Drop the disk on the floor, and your death will be quick and painless!" One of them yelled. It seemed that Strife was trapped in a five on one battle with no way out.
