Like fingerprints, everyone's life story is unique. The art of biography (and, in fact, any storywriting) lies in the telling - what to leave in, what to leave out, how best to present the material that survives editorial scrutiny. The editing process is purpose-driven: why are you writing your life story, and for whom? The possible answers to these crucial questions are many and all are valid. You may want to present your memoirs to your children to be passed on to succeeding generations. Perhaps you are called to reflection, to make sense of your journey thus far. Liberation from burdens of the past, celebration of achievements, acknowledgement of the contribution of others, redressing of misunderstandings...the motivational possibilities are endless. Quite simply, if you feel the urge to tell your story, then tell it you should.
The written word does not come easily to everyone, but that doesn't mean your story is not worth telling. If you have something to say (and who doesn't?), but doubt your capacity to do your story literary justice, I can help. Writing is my profession. You remain in control, your story is yours alone - my job is to fashion it, to mould the clay of your experience into fine biographical shape. I will assist you to separate the extraneous from the essential, to flesh out the bare bones with those details that breathe life into a story, that invest its telling with your unique personality, its soul. Why not contact me to discuss recording
your life story for posterity?
If you are confident in your writing ability, I would not presume to advise you. No one is better qualified to tell your story than you! However, even the best writers benefit from the objective critical appraisal of an astute editor who can view the work from a distance. Should you feel your completed draft could do with a final polishing and/or a professional proofreading, I would be pleased to oblige.
