Standard fee: $35 per hour (Australian dollars).  I am prepared to negotiate lower rates for regular work or large jobs (e.g. theses, essays of 5,000 words or longer).

  • Perth residents - please email, hand-deliver or post your work to me in the first instance.  In most cases, I will make my initial corrections then schedule an appointment to go through your work with you in person.

Please note:  Home visits incur a surcharge of $5 per hour     Next

  • Other Australian or International clients - credit card authorization is required before work begins. Large projects may require a deposit.

 Free Quotes

Email me an attachment (in Word format, please) of your complete essay or work requiring proofreading and I will send you an estimate of my proofreading fee. The following information is also needed:
  1. your preferred method of editing - (a) file (on screen) or (b) hard-copy*
  2. deadline date
  3. level of editing desired (see Services Defined, below)
* I recommend hard-copy (which takes me less time and therefore costs you less) - especially if you live in Perth. Of course, for clients living elsewhere, or those with a tight deadline who cannot wait for a postal delivery, the email alternative may be preferable.

 Services Defined

PROOFREADING   -   Basic proofreading consists of identifying and correcting errors in typing, spelling, punctuation and formatting.

COPYEDITING   -   Most students from non-English-speaking backgrounds require a more thorough form of proofreading called copyediting.  Copyediting involves the identification and correction of errors in grammar, word usage, phrasing, capitalization, tone (academic style), paragraphing and referencing.

SUBSTANTIVE EDITING (moderate to heavy)   -    This is intensive editing which focuses on the clarity, logic, and consistency of your position throughout your essay.  Confusing and awkward writing may be re-worked.  Sentences are analysed for structure and syntax.  The structure of your essay is examined and may be rearranged.

Please note:  Proofreading, copyediting and substantive editing often occur simultaneously.

 Method of Payment

  • If you are in Perth -  cash, bank cheque or money order are acceptable forms of payment.
Payment is to be made in full on completion of my work, providing you are satisfied with the finished product. (I have never had a dissatisfied client!)
  • If you live elsewhere - bank cheque, certified check (US clients) or money order will be required.  Credit card payments are available on request, but must be made via fax.  If using a credit card, I will email you an authorization form to be signed and faxed back to me.  This provides both security and a written transaction record.

Please note:  Samples of your corrected work will be forwarded for your approval prior to payment.  The complete corrected essay will not be returned to you until full payment is received.

 Some Money-saving Tips

  • Complete your work as best you can before you submit it to me for proofreading.  The less I have to do, the less time involved and the less it will cost you.

  • Plan your essay in note form before you begin.

  • Be certain that you fully understand the subject of your essay - if you are not sure what your tutor is asking of you, find out!

  • Make sure your essay focuses on the topic throughout - even brilliant writing will not be rewarded with a good grade if it is not relevant.

  • Ask your tutor or lecturer about their preferred format if you don't already know (eg: bibliography, referencing, use of headings and numeration within the essay, cover sheet information and layout).  Format preferences vary from faculty to faculty, institution to institution, even lecturer to lecturer!

  • Number your pages in correct order.

  • Beware of spell-checking functions -  mistypes can alter your intended meaning disastrously, but will not be picked up if correctly spelt (eg: I lick everyone in my class).  Always carefully reread your work after running a spellcheck.
