matches

years and years ago this guy called John Walker who ran a small chemist in the high street of Stockton-on-Tees liked to play about with the chemicals in the shop and made some thick gooey flamable liquid, looked around a found a small stick to stir it with. When finished playing about he put the stick down and went off home to have his dailly tea and bun after work. Next day the goo had gone hard on the stick so he went to throw it away and lo and behold , when it hit the wall it sparked into life. And thus the first match was lit.

Since then we have cut down masses of trees to make little matches whose true benefits may still yet be discovered although them grandfather clocks and houses people make out of them defy the laws of nature, like stamp collecting, not that there is anything wrong with that

escalators

After years and years of people standing in new shopping centres looking around for how to get up to the next level and gathering in groups (like the dodgy looking gangs of wheelie bins on the corner) at the bottom of stairs, a frenchman named Mr Escal if people could not move forward then what is in front of them must move instead....hence the escaseeyoulater was created and look at the very fine model on show here.

Since its first outing 248,876 people worldwide have been killed by these machines, the majority of them killed by forgetting to walk off at the end and trappled by the following crush of ever moving people. In 1998 death by escalator trampling was the favourite method of suicide in Glasgow according to official figures.
