Knight's Quest

A minute later, you exit the Men's restroom.

"Much better!" you say.  "Now, Rocky, what were you going to tell me about your feelings toward me, in response to my comment that this story has had no romantic element?"

Rocky pulls off the stylish but unobtrusive cap that he's been wearing all along but which you only noticed just now.  As he does so, tresses of hair tumble out and drape his shoulders.  Only his shoulders are really her shoulders.  And just then, you notice how beautiful those shoulders are, and how incredibly gorgeous is the head upon them!

"Rocky!" you exclaim.  "You're a girl!"

"Well," she says, "technically the term is, 'woman.'  But we'll leave that whole equal rights issue for another millennium.  In this millennium, men will pretend to have absolute authority over women, and women will go along with that pretense, because we feel really sorry for you."

"Thank you," you say.  "Now, are your feelings toward me the same as mine toward you?"

"Only if you've fallen madly in love with me and want to get instantly married and live happily ever after in a house with ginger-bread walls and a candy-cane fence and ten children running about our feet."

"Uh, well . . .  actually I was thinking we could just be friends for now, and then see how it goes."

"Oh.  Well, that's what I was feeling, too."

You reach across and take her by the hand.  The two of you exchange smiles, then start skipping together.

Just then, King Richard and Sir Irving arrive at the rest stop.

"Hey," you say.

"Hey," King Richard and Sir Irving say.
