The Gold Rush

[2003 restoration titles]

1
During the Great Gold Rush
 of Alaska, men in thousands
came from all parts of the world.
Many of them were ignorant of the
hard-ships before them, the
intense cold, the lack of food --
and a journey through regions
of ice and snow was a problem
     that awaited them.

2
The Chilkoot Pass.
 A test of man's
endurance. At this
point many turned back
discouraged, whilst
others went bravely on.

3
The Top of the Pass.

4
Three days from anywhere.
  A Lone Prospector.

5
Another lone prospector.

6
Big Jim's Lucky Strike.

7
"I've found it! I've found
 it! A Mountain of Gold."

8
Then came a storm.

9
A Lone Cabin.

10
And a lone man.

11
"Get out of here!"

12
"Get out, the pair
     of you."

13
"There's another bullet
  left, so beat it!"

14
"I'll stay right here!"

15
The storm raged
   for days.

16
And three men were
     hungry.

17
"I must have food!"

18
"What are you eating?"

19
"Nothing."

20
"We must get food. One
 of us must brave that
       storm."

21
"We'll cut the cards, and
   the low man goes."

22
The Hand of the Law.

23
"Black Larsen!"

24
Thanksgiving Dinner.

25
Indifferent to his comrades
  plight, Black Larsen
stumbles on the claim of
     Big Jim McKay.

26
"Food! Food!"

27
"I thought you was
    a chicken."

28
"I'm sorry, I must
    be crazy."

29
Chicken or no chicken,
  his friend looks
    appetizing.

30
Then came the parting
of the ways. One to
his secret mine. The
 other to his fate.

31
Back to the mountain
      of gold.

32
The North. A law
  unto itself.

33
One of the many cities
  in the Far North,
built overnight during
 the great gold rush.

34
Jack. The ladies
      man.

35
Georgia.

36
"Georgia."

37
A disappointed
  prospector.

38
The only gold he made
with pick and shovel.

39
That night in the Monte
  Carlo dance hall.

40
Georgia.

41
The Stranger.

42
"What's wrong with you
   tonight, dear?"

43
"I guess I'm bored."

44
"If I could only meet
 some one worth while --
I'm so tired of this place."

45
"How's the little
   spitfire?"

46
"Oh quit that stuff and
     have a drink."

47
"You're pretty fresh,
     ain't ya?"

48
"Come on now, me
and you are going
   to dance."

49
"Hey you! Come here!"

50
"Do you mind dancing
      with me?"

51
"You see, I'm very
 particular who I
   dance with."

52
The following morning.

53
Hank Curtis cabin. Within
  a stone throw of the
       dance hall.

54
One way of getting
    breakfast.

55
Big Jim McKay owing
  to the blow he
had received, lost his
memory and wandered
  aimlessly on.

56
Hank Curtis and his
partner prepare for
a trip to their mine.

57
"Who is the little
     fellow?"

58
"Just someone to take
 care of the cabin
  while I'm away."

59
"Don't forget to feed
     the mule."

60
Away from the
 dance hall.

61
Georgia.

62
"I haven't seen you since
  we danced together."

63
"I guess you're lonesome
        here."

64
"Yes Mam."

65
"Why don't you invite us
  to dinner sometime?"

66
"Oo! Yes Mam."

67
"Will you really come
     to dinner?"

68
"Oh yes! Let's make it
 New Year's Eve, girls."

69
"Very well, eight o'clock
    New Year's Eve."

70
"I left my gloves."

71
To make possible the
New Year's dinner,
he begged, borrowed
  and shovelled.

72
New Year's Eve.

73
Five minutes to Eight.

74
"Hello Georgia!"

75
"Hello Jack!"

76
"Speech! Speech!"

77
"I'm so h-h-happy -
  Oh, I can't --"

78
"But I'll dance the
   Oceana Roll."

79
"He's wonderful!"

80
"Our old friend Scotty will
   sing Auld Lang Syne."

81
 "That reminds me,
our little friend the
      tramp."

82
"Let's go up and have
 some fun with him."

83
"Do you love me?"

84
"Yes."

85
"You go first. We'll
 scare the wits out
     of him."

86
"Isn't he here?"

87
"Well it doesn't matter.
      Kiss me."

88
"Please don't!"

89
"The joke has gone
 too far, let's go!"

90
"Why don't you
   kiss me?"

91
"You will!"

92
The recorder's office
  the next day. Big
Jim McKay wanders
    into town.

93
"I have a mountain
     of gold."

94
"Where is this place?"

95
"I can't remember."

96
"The Cabin! That's it!
If I only knew the way
to the Cabin, I could
   find the mine."

97
"I'm sorry Jim, but
 we're very busy."

98
In the Dance Hall.
   That night.

99
"Come here bum."

100
"Say! Come here."

101
"Give that bum this
 note, and don't tell
   him I sent it."

102
"Have you seen
   Georgia?"

103
"Where's Georgia?"

104
"Where's Georgia?"

105
"THE CABIN!"

106
"THE CABIN!"

107
"THE CABIN!"

108
"The Cabin! The Cabin!
 Take me to the cabin."

109
"Take me to the Cabin
 and I'll make you a
millionaire in less than
      a month."

110
"GEORGIA!"

111
"Georgia, I got your
      note --"

112
"- and now I'm going to
 make good --"

113
"To the Cabin!"

114
After a long and tedious
       journey.

115
"The Cabin at last!"

116
"Bring in the eats, and
 in the morning we'll
  start for the mine."

117
Man proposes, but
 a storm disposes.

118
And as our slumbering
heroes slept throughout
the storm -- fate guided
them to a spot where all
       was calm.

119
Blissful ignorance.

120
Preparing for breakfast.

121
"It's the stomach."

122
"I'll see what's outside."

123
"Take it easy!"

124
"Don't move! Don't
    breathe!"

125
"My Claim! My Claim!
 At last I've found my
        claim."

126
"Look! We're rich! We're
     millionaires."

127
Good bye Alaska.
  Homeward bound on
the good ship success.

128
"Make way for the
 Multi-millionaires."

129
The Press.

130
"The press is publishing
 a story of your career.
 Would you kindly pose
 for us in your mining
       clothes?

131
"No, no, not the nails --
       the corns."

132
Everything but Georgia.

133
Georgia.

134
Searching for
 a stowaway.

135
"He's in the steerage
 here somewhere. If
I find him I'll put him
      in irons."

136
"So you're the stowaway --
I've been looking for you."

137
"Please, please, don't
put him in irons. I'll
    pay his fare."

138
   "A stowaway, heck!
That's Big Jim's partner,
 the Multi-millionaire."

139
"James. Make arrangements
   for another guest."

140
"Excuse me, Sir --
 Who is the Lady?"

141
"Congratulations."

142
"Gee! This will make
 a wonderful story."

143
"Hold! Still!"

144
"Oh! You've spoilt
  the picture."
