"Hello, Louie B. Mayer speaking."

"Yes, Mr. Mayer, this is Lana Moore. I did a few pictures for you a couple of years ago."

"Lana, yes.  What picture was that again?" asked Mayer.

"Remember, it was Moon over Broadway, starring Van Johnson and myself, Lana Moore?"

"Oh, yeah, now I remember.  What can I do for you?"

"Well, I was wondering if you have considered me for the new movie Minnelli is making," Lana said crossing her fingers.

"Oh, well we have so many actresses to consider.  So many want the part.  You know so far Garland, Davis, and even Garbo have approached me, but I will think about it.

"Great, well when you come to your decision, please give me a call and let me know.  Oh, by the way, are you going to the Celebrity Gala?  Well I am, so I've got to be going now so many things to do.

That night Lana opened the drapes and the windows in her room for the first time in years. As she looked out at the small houses below, she realized it was a very beautiful clear night. Looking up at the night sky she noticed all the bright, shining stars.  While doing so, she thought about how her career was just about to burn as bright as the stars above.  Turning around to prepare for bed she noticed the coat of dust on many of the items in the room.  She would have to mention this to the maid.  She hated to though because the maid was a black woman just a few years older than herself and she realized if she hadnt gone with the charade of passing for white that that might be her.  Anyway a soon to be top star mustnt have a dusty room.  Content with that thought she went to sleep.
