I am an avid classic movie buff and so I decided to create a web page in honour of the people who made these great films. I hope to have sounds and pictures up soon. So please come back and check with me soon.
Well I have to begin with my favorite actress of all times. The great Bette Davis. There just isn't anyone else that can compare to her talents in my opinion. Below are some films that I can highly recommend to you. Just click on the pictures and they will take you to a great site to buy these films. The Internet Movie Database. It is the best Movie site on the net for old films and new ones. Be sure to check it out. I have provided my on button when there is not a movie still.
Katharine Houghton Hepburn died on Sunday, June 29, 2003 at her home at the age of 96. She was the second of five children. Her parents were Dr. Thomas Hepburn and Katherine. She had a life of privilage but also tragedy. Her older brother Tom hanged himself when Katherine was only 14 years old and she is the one that found his body. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania with a drama degree. After finding some success in Broadway she left for Hollywood.
She won the first of her four Oscars at the age of 26 for her third film Morning Glory. From the moment that she came to Hollywood she projected an image quite different from that of the usual movie star. She was the first famous woman to go around in slacks. She refused to give interviews, shunned autograph hounds, and kept her private life very private.
The love of her life was Spencer Tracy, with whom she spent 27 years with and they made nine great films together. Tracy a devout Roman Catholic would not divorce his wife Louise. He remained married to her until his death in 1967. Even though he remained married to Louise Tracy and Hepburn took the chance of ruining their careers by living together without being married.
She is quoted as saying, "I'm a personality as well as an actress" and she also said, "Show me an actress who isn't a personality, and you'll show me a woman who isn't a star."
In 1999 the American Film Institute ranked her the greatest actress of all time. Her record of 12 Oscar nominations was only matched by actress Meryl Streep this year.
I thought that since we just lost the great Katherine Hepburn that I would put up a list of her films that I really enjoy and can recommend that you take the time to watch.
Morning Glory (1933)
You will notice I am sure that I stopped at 1968 on the list of Katherine Hepburn's films. While I have seen most of the films that she made later on; The ones that I have listed above her my favorites and ones that I have been trying to add to my collection of movies.
I might also suggest to you that you go and pick up her autobiography that she wrote a few years ago. I found it was very well written and I couldn't put it down once I began reading it.
I decided to create this web site because of my love of the classic movies and the people that made them. Most of the web sites that I have found just salute the actors and actresses that acted in the films. So on this website I want to also honor the people behind the scenes. Such as the directors. One of my favorite is George Cukor. He made so many great films.
Some of the films that he directed are as follows:
