| s-a-t-u-r-d-a-y night! 07.15.01 For some reason I almost typed "98" in as the year above. It's terrible what old age can do. Some poor drunken fool last night said it must be my twenty-first or twenty-second birthday. Bless his soul. NOW kicked off the evening with "Golddigger." Kick ass! They were amazing, as usual, and I've never before seen a crowd react that way to a band they'd never been exposed to. Other highlights of the evening: 1) a few of my girls got together last week unbeknownst to me and made "Emma" shirts to wear at the show (and I got one, as well)! That blew my everlovin' mind; 2) checking out the dressing room area at the Roxy [see photo], the place where I saw my first show at the tender age of 15 (it was my friend's brother's band, and their lead singer was dressed up like a Nothing's Shocking-era Perry Farrell, so of course it was love at first sight); 3) seeing my grandparents on the Sunset Strip was fabulous; 4) Fenians guitarist Rob's new Billy Idol 'do and upgraded earring. Rock on!; and best of all, 5) Roger running up to me during a Fenians song that says, "Take her in your arms/Tell her that you love her," grabbing me and shouting "I LOVE YOU!" Later I found out he'd been urging the other guys to "Go grab your girl! Do like the song says!" Honestly. Does it get any better? Inside the "Pay Your Dues" dressing room. Hey, the beer's free. In the "interesting" category: 1. The guy in the drunken sailor costume and the whiskey bottle costume onstage with Sally's Gap. Terrifying. 2. The traffic afterward on Sunset. It took an entire hour to move roughly six blocks at two in the morning. It seems there was a stabbing at Mel's, the coffee shop we were trying to get to. 3. Is Steve from Sally's Gap related to James Hetfield? Just curious. I really think they might be cousins, from their general appearance to their love for John Deere to the "metal up your ass!!" hand gestures. Very strange. BEFORE home |
