Georgian Institute of Public Affairs
Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management
offers a one-year, English-language master's degree program in journalism
Twenty students, selected in a Caucasus-wide competition, will be trained
to assume news and management positions at newspapers, news agencies,
broadcast outlets and web-based publications. Instructors are American
and European journalism specialists. The journalism faculty and curriculum
for the school is provided by the International Center for Journalists,
a Washington-based journalism organization, with the cooperation of
Internews, Louisiana State University Manship School of Mass Communication
and Ecole superieur de journalisme de Lille. The program is funded by
the U.S. Department of State, with supplementary funding from the Open
Society Institute.
The program will be offered in three trimesters from January to November
2004. Tuition is required for applicants of Georgian nationality.
The curriculum is based on a hands-on, experiential approach, using
the latest techniques of fact-based, professional reporting and writing
for both print and broadcast media. Students have access to a computer
laboratory, the Internet, photo, audio and video broadcast equipment
and a journalism library. The students publish Brosse Street Journal,
a student newspaper in print and electronic versions.

ENTRANCE TESTS:

APPLICANTS MUST HAVE:
· Bachelor's or master's degree; previous training or education
in journalism not required
· Excellent command of English
· Commitment to a career in journalism
· Commitment to study for a full year
