"What is a Diagnosis?" by Dori Bushee

So many times in our lives we find we have unexplained physical problems, and when we can't come up with a reason for them we usually take a trip of our Primary Care Physician to see if they can figure it all out, and perhaps in doing so they can make us feel better again.

Many times it is as simple as all that, but other times it involves so much more, and beyond the physical exam and the blood work that may be required, or the CT scans, MRI's, or simple x-rays, there is finally a "diagnosis".

Of course having your doctor give you a "diagnosis" by no means is a magical cure to whatever ails you, and more often than not it is the beginning of a long journey into learning a new way to live your life, from how you eat to how you move, to any other number of things that may be required along the way.

And sadly, sometimes a "diagnosis" is given that offers no known cure, and we find ourselves wondering why we put ourselves through all of the testing to come up empty handed, and now besides our physical problems we become depressed.

Depression does not help the situation one bit, but it is the easier route to take when one is uncertain of the future and of which way to turn, but this is when we should be pulling ourselves up by the bootstraps and doing anything and everything we can to help ourselves.

If we are fortunate enough to have a good support team, like close family or friends, it makes it much easier to deal with, but even if that is not the case, there are so many outlets we can seek out on our own to understand our "diagnosis" and what we can expect down the road.

This is when using cyber space can come into play, and you can check out numerous sites that will offer you information your Doctor may have not had time to share with you in an office visit, and you can also often find a "support group" that will help you get through those tougher days ahead.

They say one should never give up hope, and getting a "diagnosis" has often caused many to throw in the towel and succumb to their medical maladies, never once trying to see what they themselves can do to, but this is not the time to become negative, and the more you know the stronger it can make you become.

Hopefully your "diagnosis" will be one that there is a cure for, and with following a Doctor's orders you might find yourself being the same old you in no time, but if that "diagnosis" is not one that offers much hope, you have to be the one to make things happen, and this will empower you beyond the limits you ever thought you were capable of dealing with!
