The
Dance by Margaret Feathers
I recently bought a little picture and put it in a frame. It grabbed my
attention from the first moment, but I didn't buy it right away. I walked away
from it a couple of times, but it kept drawing me back to it. It said, very
simply -
"I
get up. I walk. I fall down. Meanwhile, I keep dancing." Hillel
I know that it first attracted me because it reminded me of the day I had put on
some music while in my living room and began dancing to it. As I was feeling the
power of energy and joy coming from the music, I also felt the presence of God
and could feel Him laughing and dancing with me. It was a very meaningful,
sacred moment for me and I often go back there in my memory and meditations and
it makes me smile.
But there was something else to that little picture that I kept feeling. It's
what made me decide to hang it in my home. I realized that the
"dancing" was not the one of physical movement, but rather, one of the
heart. It's the dance of a dream - a dream held deep within that means so much
to us and one that we continue to hold on to with hope and love. It's the dream
that makes us continue to take steps toward it and the one that makes us who we
are.
Don't we all have something that we long for, strive for and give our energy to?
It doesn't matter what it is - a new job or house or starting a business. Maybe
it's to move near family, conquer a disease, write a book or just have an hour
each day to do nothing. Maybe it's to become a better person or help the world
be a pbetter place for all to live. It really isn't the matter of the dream
that's important - it's what it means to us and what it signifies to our inner
self.
The thing with dreams is that we often don't know how the "dance"
goes. We often push it way back and under the demands and lists that incorporate
our everyday lives. Or we let go of it if it doesn't materialize fast enough or
if it eludes us just when we think it's within our reach. We forget to keep it
in our sight, our consciousness and our language and it drifts away. We let
other practical, logical or concrete matters "lead" our steps away
from it and its energy isn't strong enough to bring it to life. What's important
to remember is that it can live strong and bright, but we have to do the
"leading". More importantly, it's also crucial to remember who the
choreographer is - the One who's directing the dance steps that we take.
Where did the dream come from in the first place? How did it get in our hearts?
Did it just pop up from nowhere? Not likely. There is the One and Only Supreme
Creator who put it there. The Creator of All - including our dream. All we have
to do is take the time to remember the source of everything and the desire He
who created it has to make it live. We have the tune in our heart - the dream
itself. He knows all the notes of the music. All we have to do is let Him direct
our steps of the dance. Then we know what steps to take - when to turn, bend,
speed up, slow down, or when to stand still.
He can direct, but it's up to us to let the music play in the first place. We
can tune it out and let ourselves or others turn it off , or we can keep
it alive by speaking, visualizing and believing in it. To do this, we have to
listen to the voice of the song and the beat it makes - and dance, dance and
dance.
We may stumble. We may trip. We may even fall. But the dance is always going on
in our hearts - it's up to us to never let it go, no matter how many times we
may have to get back up. It's nice to remember, too, that the way we can get
back up is to reach out and grab that hand that's willing to pull us up, dust us
off and continue to lead as if we hadn't missed a beat. He's always there,
keeping the music alive and the dance going. He's willing - are we?
I encourage you to dream your dream. Let the music play - and dance your dance.
Hold it precious to you, for it is sacred. Speak it, for those words are
special. Let it live, for it is your heart come alive.
Dance - for it is who you are.
