Taking Control by Laryalee Fraser
I used to keep my troubled thoughts intact,
despite the misery they caused. I'd grown
accustomed to their morbid shapes, in fact
their ugliness became a comfort zone.
But soon they took control and I was just
a puppet, bowing to their dark commands.
One day, I'd had enough! I knew I must
escape their bonds, regain the upper hand.
I'm learning now, to fold my doubts away.
Each night I thread my worries on a string
and calmly send them skyward, then I pray
for strength to face the new ones dawn will bring.
