Am I Cured or Healed?

It was in the morning and the year of May 1969
I answered my phone a little before nine,
The words I heard almost shattered my will,
My whole world crashed and time stood still.

The week before I had had some hospital tests run
And I came home after a biopsy was done,
Trusting in God while fasting with prayer
I believed that no sign of cancer would they find there.

My best friend also fasted and prayed for me
Along with the church and friends and family;
I went back to work driving the big old yellow school bus
With a lot of faith as in God I did trust.

The ringing of the phone that morning brought fear
"full of cancer, immediate surgery" I did hear,
I did not know how that could possibly be,
I had believed in God and trusted him ,you see.

To my best friends home I ran , she lived down the street
As she opened the door I walked in and began to weep,
Her answer to me was also heart felt and with tears
She began to pray and then these words I did hear.

"Sister Leona, I don't really understand why,
We trusted the Lord" and she began to cry.
Then she said "God says to tell you
We can have what we believe him for" oh that was so true.

Well with five small kids all under 12 years of age
I had no choice then but to go, my decision was made
The surgery was done and I suffered a lot of pain
Had other complications the doctor did explain.

Then three days later the doctor came in the room
He was smiling from ear to ear, his face held no gloom
He  said, "I don't understand this, I saw it with my own eyes
Cancer was all through you and the biopsy said so twice

But this last one I sent it showed clear as day
There is no cancer, no where, so I'll just write this way
Cured on the chart was what he did write
And I knew then as I also know tonight
Many things we do not understand in this life,
But I've kept my faith in the Lord and I am doing all right!
