"Can You Hear Me?" by Dan Crenshaw
I don't know many things yet
I'm too young to know the difference
But I feel like you do most times
Not all I feel and think is all nonsense
Can you hear me?
When I talk to you...reach out for you?
I feel lost and not found
When I try reaching out to you...
Though I know very little about things
I know and feel just the same you know
About these early days of my life
And wonder why and so...
Can you hear me?
When I speak my small words to you
My dreams and my wonderment
Do they mean anything to you?
I know you love me in your own way
I'm that little one that loves to play
But can you look past my stumbling
And love me for who I am anyway?
Can you hear me?
The silly questions I ask and how
I want to be disciplined and loved
And taught things and how...
Maybe I could grow up to be
Just like you...that's what I wanna be!
Can you hear me?
When I ask you reasons why
I'm alive and why I can ask
Just simple questions that don't require
A just because...and that's why?
I want you to be my reason today
For being born...for being your child
And when I ask you why again today
Can you be my friend for a day?
Can you hear me?
Do you remember me?
Can you tell me...
That you love me?
