Roy stopped " Hey you know she's been through hell, and it's going to take some time. So tell me how are you holding up?" Johnny asked concerned for the person he most often looked up to. " Oh I'm fine, but I guess you should be practicing on driving the squad." Roy said not making eye contact " What do you mean Roy?" Johnny asked not liking what he just heard. " Junior I hit man, Capt saw it. " Roy said." Johnny if the police didn't come when they did I might have killed him. No I think this is it Junior, my fireman paramedic days are over." Johnny replied dropping in a chair. Detecting trouble Captain Stanley asked." What's up , Is he okay? How's Nicci?" "Well as far as Nicci, she still isn't talking and as for Roy I'm not sure Capt. He thinks he's going to lose his job over what happened." He finished just as Roy walked in " Hey Pal, sit down I'd like to talk to you." Captain Stanley said his voice littered with compassion Taking his seat Roy waited for the news that would send him with walking papers. For a moment Captain Stanley studied his senior paramedic. He could see the hurt still fresh in his eyes. He knew he had to at least try to make a bad situation a little better. With that in mind he spoke. " Roy I don't know what to say but I do know this, I have a daughter to, and I get so scared that someone is going to hurt her. We as fathers always dread the day we learn that our baby girls grow up and become young ladies. Roy, your not a violent man, your caring and compassionate and a real asset to this department. You did what you had to do Roy. Hell I would have been surprised if you didn't react the way you did. You love your daughter just as I love Sherry, if it was Sherry I would have done the same." Captain Stanley stopped to study the tears building in Roy's somber look. " "Thanks Capt, But you know I dont regret what I did, I'd do again in a heartbeat." Roy stated as fact. " But what is Head Quarters going to think. I jeopardized the image of not only you guys but the whole fire department. And if that isn't reason for dismissal then I dont know what is. " With Roy's words Captain Stanley thought about his life as an Engineer back when McConikee was his Captain. He was reminded of something that happened in McConikee's life that was very simular to what Roy was facing. With that thought Capt got up." Excuse me" He said as he went to call his Chief. ........One hour later Walking in Chief McConikee took in his surrounding. Looking at the crew of station 51, he could sence a bit of sorrow that blanketed the room. There was no talking, no joking around like there usually was. Then looking at Roy, He felt a burst of sadness.He had heard what had happened and now he was looking at the man who was suffering as he once did. Taking his seat at the table he placed his hand on Roy's arm."I know how hard all this is to you. Believe me I know what you are going through." He stopped as he could recall in his distant memories after years have past were still haunting him." I've been where you are right now. You see son, Lisa my oldest was attacked when she was in collage. I never had the chance to get my hands on the guy responcible, but if I did, I would have torn apart. I still remember feeling so helpless standing in the hallway at Harbor General. I could hear Lisa screaming and I couldn't do a damn thing." He stopped to once again to study Roy before continuing." So you see son, I know your kind of pain. So you dont have to worry about your job, it is safe. The most you might get is a suspendtion. If you do get suspended, I would highly suggest taking your family away, maybe the mountains. This time should be used for healing together as a family." He ended " I dont know what to say Chief."
