Making her way up the stairs she was greeted by the smell of bacon and eggs. followed by Jo. " Good Morning, sleep okay?" Without a word she took her seat at the table her stomach rising to her throat. " You feeling okay?" Roy asked seeing that Nicci's face was flushed with red circling her eyes. It was as if to Roy that she was having great difficulty keeping her eyes open at all. Without an answer Roy reach over to feel her head for fever. At first touch Nicci bolted out of her chair. " Don't fucking touch me." She barked. " Nicci watch your month, they'll be none of that kind of language here."Roy ordered." We have to think of the younger children in this house you know. " Nicole why dont you sit back down and eat some breakfast. It'll make you feel better." Jo insisted sitting a full plate in front of Nicci. At the sight of the food in front of her Nicci could no longer hold her stomach down. fighting her stomach from letting loose, Nicci got up and quickly scurried down stairs to the bathroom. After suffering with dry heaves Nicci quietly went back to her room thinking that if she rested a bit the nausea would subscide. " Nicci?" Roy asked quietly walking into her room. " What?" " Do you think you feel up to going into town? I'd like to take and get you enrolled in school " Yeah I guess." She said giving up the fight before it ever started. " Okay good, I'll wait for you upstairs." ...... Walking through the bay after spending half the morning at the school Roy stood just in side the doorway of the day room with Nicci at his side. Seeing the same scene a smile found his face. His friends were sitting around the table sipping their coffee while small talked floated around the room. " Man who would have guessed? Don't anybody work around here." He joked " Hey Pal, I thought you had forgot about us and decided to work someplace else." Captain Stanley teased getting up from his chair to welcome one of his senior crew members " Hi Capt, Capt, guys I want you to meet Nicci." Roy introduced " Nicci This is my Captain Captain Stanley. Our Engineer Mike Stoker, firefighters Chet Kelly and Marco Lopez." With a warm smile Captain outreached his hand in a friendly gesture." It's a pleasure to meet you Nicci, On behalf of my crew, I want to welcome you to Station 51." Without taking Captain Stanley's hand, Nicci stood there. The look of dicust washed her face while she rolled her eyes upward. As Roy stood there he studied the crude look on her face. He tried desprately to understand the reasons why, but in the end her couldn't. Ignoring her rudeness he added" And you remember my partner Johnny." " Yeah I remember so." She sassed " So, dont you should show a little common courtesy to say hi?" Roy asked taking offence of Nicci's bad attitude. " Fine Hi , there I said it now leave me the hell alone." " Now Nicci, thats not fair, Dont you know these guys are your friends." "No they're your friends not mine." She said."And as for you." She started looking up at the 6ft 2in Captain." If you dont get that hand of yours away from me , you'll be pulling back a stump." Surprised by her threatening outburst the crew retreated back to the table. As for Roy by the look on his face it was clear that he didn't approve." Nicci now that was tottaly uncalled for, you apologize to my Captain right now." Roy demanded. " I aint apologizing for shit, Now take me home. I'll stay my lilly white ass away from you and you stay your lilly white ass away from me." She blirted out. Then in anger she left the room leaving Roy and the others behind. ........... " Roy?" Joanne questioned seeing that Roy was sitting at the kitchen table.Leaning his head down in the palm of his hand as if in deep thought. "Roy, Where's Nicci? " Oh hi Jo." Roy greeted as he looked at his wife as if noticing for the first time that she was in the room. " She went down stairs." " Did you get her enrolled in school." " Yeah I did." Studying her husbands face it was obvious to Joanne that something was troubleing her husband. "Roy what's wrong? " Nothing much, I just took Nicci to the station to meet the guys. She was very rude and nasty to them. And she more less threatened my Captain when he went to shake her hand." Roy stopped Then glanced towards the basement door as the sound of loud music making its way upstairs. " They were nothing but kind to her and for her to treat them like that."Roy stopped. " I dont understand it Jo. It's like she mad at the world and everyone in it." "Roy I wouldn't worry about it, She's just testing the waters, it's common for kids her age." Joanne said."
