" Nicci it's so good to see you, my how you've grown, the last time I seen you were knee high to a grass hopper." Joanne stopped when she saw that Nicci had backed away from her. " Is this a private party or can anyone join." Johnny said walking through the front door." With the look of surprise Roy looked at his partner." Junior what are you doing here?" " Well after Jo told me you were coming home, I couldn't help myself." Johnny said his crooked grin. " I see, you wanted to be first huh." Roy said with a smile. " You got it Pally. And you must be Nicci. Hi I'm Johnny Gage, but you can call me Uncle Johnny." Johnny said holding his hand out to the small framed girl standing in front of him. With the look of discust Nicci ignored Johnny's request to shake her hand. Seeing her unwillingness Johnny withdrew his warm gesture. "Nicci Mr. Gage said hi to you." Roy said " I know that I'm not deaf." She said giving her dad attitude Disapproving of her words Roy said " Well dont you think you should return it and say hi back?" " Look, all I want is for someone to show me to my room. Ya'll stay the hell out of my face and I'll stay out of yours." Nicci spouted Thinking that Nicci was over tired from the trip Joanne overlooked the attitude that she was giving." Nicci, come on you must be tired. I'll take you to your room so that you can rest up before supper." After a quick tour of the upstairs Jo took Nicci down stairs.Following her step mother through the finished basement Nicci took in her surroundings. Surprisingly it was tastefully decorated and it didn't look or smell like a basement. It was complete with a family room, a small kitchen and a bathroom. Opening the door to a bedroom fixed specially for her Jo stood outside the doorway, allowing Nicci to walk in" Why dont you rest now and I'll see you later, okay sweet heart." " I'm not your kid so dont treat like I am and dont call me sweet heart." Nicci demanded. then shutting the door leaving Jo still standing there. ......... Roy could you call the kids in for supper." Joanne said placing the large boul of mixed vegtables on the table. Walking down the basement stairs that lead to Nicci's room Roy stopped and tapped on the door." Nicci." He said while opening the door. Stopping short as he wittnessed her smoking a cigarette." Nicci what do you think your doing, put that out." " Yeah and who says you?" Nicci said. " Yes now put it out right now." Roy demanded holding up the ash tray Ignoring Roy Nicci got up. Taking the cigarette to her mouth she allowed her mouth to fill with smoke. Then without regard to Roy she blew the smoke in his face. Holding his temper back he took the cigarette from Nicci and then crushed it in the ashtray." It's time for supper. It would be nice if you'd see fit to join us.." He said ignoring her rudeness just before leaving the room. ............ "Roy how's she doing? She coming up to eat?"Jo asked taking her seat with Johnny and her two children. " I dont know if you'll be coming up or not." Roy said still taking in the fact that he caught his fourteen year old daughter smoking. Sencing something was wrong by the look on Roy Jo asked." Roy what's wrong are you okay?"
