Previously: Nicci has a miscarrage Authors Notes: Two days later For two days Roy stood in front of the plate glass window spying on the world below. A certain saddness filled him for he had never felt so far from anyone in his life. Even in the same room it was as if he and Nicci were a million miles apart. Glancing in Nicci's direction he watched as she without a word continued to doodle on scratch piece of paper. He desprately needed answers to the many questions that plagued every inch of his soul. Even though he dreaded the answers he knew in his heart he could not put it off any longer. With that thought in mind he spoke." Nicci we to talk about what happened." Without a responce he turned to study Nicci as she continued to draw doodles ." Nicci, Why wont you talk to me?" Still hearing no reply Roy walked over to the side of the bed and placed his hand on her drawing as a way to stop her from ignoring him." Nicci why wont you talk to me." " I have nothing to say to you." She spit her anger building " Oh yes you do Nicci." Roy declared. " You can start by telling who the boy was.' " I dont matter, it was just a boy." She lied. Then feeling frightened Nicci turned to face the wall remembering all the threats from her past. She couldn't let her dad find out that it wasn't a boy at all but that it was her step dad. " I dont believe that, not for one moment , Now tell me who." Roy demanded " No I'm not telling you shit." She spit in anger. " Dammit Nicci, I'm your father, I have a right to know." Roy cursed" Christ Nicci, How can I protect you if you wont tell who's responcible?" With those words her father spoke she blew." PROTECTION, I DONT NEED YOU FOR PROTECTION, I DONT NEED YOU FOR ANYTHING. NOW GET OUT OF HERE AND LEAVE ME ALONE." she screamed, In her mind she still blamed Roy interupting before things got the chance to get worse Dr. Bracket walked in."Excuse me." He said seeing the tention in the room he said in hopes that his words would help. " Here's the release papers." " Oh thanks Doc." Roy said her words still clinging to his mind " You're welcome." Brackett said " Just remember no stair climbing and no lifting of items that weigh more then ten pounds. Now she should be able to go back to school in a week. Before you leave Roy, I would like to set up an appointment for a check up in about two weeks."." Brackett ended. ............... Walking through the front door with Nicci, Roy was greeted by Jo." How's she doing Roy?" She asked seeing that Nicci was asleep in her husbands arms. " Oh she's okay, Doc gave her something to make her sleep." Roy said with a bit of relief in his voice. Then remembering what Brackett said about no stairs Roy headed to the bedroom he and Joanne shared. " She'll have to sleep in here for a few days." Roy stated laying his daughter down in the queen sized double stuffed bed. ..........One week later.......... Roy was never so happy to report to work as he was today. " Morning." He greeted with a fake smile. " Good morning, looks like your doing better." Captain Stanley noticed" How's Nicci." " She's back in school but she still has a rotten attitude." Roy said with a certain fustration, Just as the klaxons sounded ........Meanwhile......... Walking down the hall on her way to the library Sherry Stanley thought about her friend Nicci. A burst of saddness washed her as she thought back to the rude remarks and horrable names that would echo through by the passing student when Nicci walked passed them in the hall. And if that wasn't enough Sherry watched in horror when just yesturday she had wittnessed a senior sneak up behind Nicci hitting her in the back of the head hard enough to send Nicci to the floor. As Sherry came to a set of heavy doors her thoughts were interupted as the sound of distinct cries mixing with hitious words coming from at least two boys. Setting her search in motion Sherry swung open the door. A bolt of fear ran throuh her as Nicci ran past with clothes tattered and torn" Nicci wait." Sherry screamed out. Concerned for her friend, Sherry bagan persuit. With no luck Sherry stopped. Not knowing what to do or how to help Nicci Sherry found herself crunching down as she bagan to sob. TBC |
